How to replace the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor on GMC Sierra 1500?

The first step to replace the engine Coolant Temperature Sensor requires draining the vehicle's cooling system. Start by disconnecting the engine wiring harness electrical connector from the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor then remove the ect sensor from the Cylinder Head. The threads of your old sensor need gm p/n 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) or equivalent sealant before installation. After installing the ect sensor onto the Cylinder Head apply a torque of 20 n.m (15 lb ft). Set the engine wiring harness electrical connector to the ect sensor then proceed with filling the cooling system. The coolant sensor requires gentle handling because damage to it will cause problems with the fuel control system operation. Selection of accurate replacement components alongside precise torque specifications prevents device destruction.
