In order to replace the Crankshaft Position Sensor, first, lift and safely suspend the vehicle. If necessary, take off the oil pan skid plate and its bolts. Unplug the engine wiring harness electrical connectors from the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor, and set the CKP sensor back bolt and the sensor apart. When installing the new CKP sensor, be sure it is seated fully before tightening the bolt to prevent erratic performance and false diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). If restocking the old CKP sensor, which until now should be brand new O-ring seal on the sensor and oiling with clean engine oil. Mount the CKP sensor with the bolt, tighten the bolt to 10 N.m (89 lb in). Connect the CKP sensor wiring harness electrical connector once again. In cases where appropriate, place the oil pan skid plate and bolt it to the engine, tightening to 28 N.m (21 lb ft). Finally, lower the car and conduct crankshaft position system variation learn procedure.
