What Tools Are Required to Service and Repair the CV Boot and CV Joint on GMC Sierra 1500?

In order to service and repair cv joint boot, the following tools will be required: drive axle seal clamp pliers (J 35910), drive axle clamp swage tool (J 36652-1) and axle swage tool (J 36652-98). Remove the wheel drive shaft and the cover of the wheel drive shaft seal if it applies. Cut through the swage ring with a hand grinder and knock the tripot housing away from halfshaft. Once removed, clean and degrease it, then let it dry out properly. Unscrew the small boot retaining clamp and the spacer ring, as well as remove the tripot spider assembly and tripot boot from the halfshaft bar, where you are to clean the bar and check the needle rollers, needle bearings, and trunnion for any damage. For the installation, affix the new small seal clamp onto the joint seal and press it down onto the halfshaft bar and contain it with the drive axle seal clamp pliers (J 35910) to a torque of 136 n.m (100 lb ft). Place the convolute retainer tool over the inboard joint maker to make sure that the right number of convolutions is grabbed for the corresponding model. Next, the tripot spider assembly and spacer ring should be installed, pack the tripot seal and housing with the grease that comes with the parts, and assemble the tripot housing and seal. Secure the base of the axle swage tool (J 36652-98) in a vise for the 1500 models, while for 2500 and 3500 models use the drive axle clamp swage tool (J 36652-1). Put the halfshaft assembly into appropriate tool; install the top half; align the swage ring and clamp; hand-tighten bolts. Close-tightening the bolts until the two pieces of the tool are in contact and remove the halfshaft assembly, inspect for inboard stroke position from the specified measurement for each model. Last, if necessary, reinstall the wheel drive shaft seal cover and the wheel drive shaft.
