    Q:
How to replace the front drive axle's CV joint and CV boot on Cadillac Escalade? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before you change the shaft and its outer boot, make sure to secure one end of the halfshaft in a vise with safety covers. Trim the swage ring with a hand tool carefully so that you don't damage the cv joint outside the race. Remove the small boot clamp, put the boot over the halfshaft bar and use a clean cloth to wipe off the cv joint face. Pull the halfshaft bar retaining snap ring ears apart using j8059 and then remove the cv joint and the old boot from the halfshaft bar. Use the brass drift to gently strike and push the cage while it is tilted to send all the chrome alloy balls out. Turn the whole setup upside down and remove the assemblies by 90 degrees. After that, clean the inner and outer race, cv joint cage and the chrome alloy balls with solvent to remove any old grease. See if the tire has any signs of wear or damage and change parts that show defects. Once everything is ready, check the parts once more and coat their grooves on both sides with a thin layer of grease. Line up the inner race with the cage windows, insert it and then place both into the outer race. Slant the cage to fit the alloy balls inside and as you do, pack the boot with the grease from the kit. Attach the new clamp from j35910 to the shaft after tightening it to 136 nm (100 ft. Lbs.) and before putting on the cv boot, have the retaining ring part of the inner race facing the halfshaft. Squeeze the large swage ring onto the large diameter of the boot to put it over the cv joint outer race, ensuring you line up the assembly and swage ring properly as you move forward. After this, install the upper section of j36652, twist the bolts one way, then the other until they are touching, loosen them again and take out the halfshaft from the tool.

    Q:
What Tools Are Required to Service and Repair the CV Boot and CV Joint on Chevrolet Silverado 1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
In order to service and repair cv joint boot, the following tools will be required: drive axle seal clamp pliers (J 35910), drive axle clamp swage tool (J 36652-1) and axle swage tool (J 36652-98). Remove the wheel drive shaft and the cover of the wheel drive shaft seal if it applies. Cut through the swage ring with a hand grinder and knock the tripot housing away from halfshaft. Once removed, clean and degrease it, then let it dry out properly. Unscrew the small boot retaining clamp and the spacer ring, as well as remove the tripot spider assembly and tripot boot from the halfshaft bar, where you are to clean the bar and check the needle rollers, needle bearings, and trunnion for any damage. For the installation, affix the new small seal clamp onto the joint seal and press it down onto the halfshaft bar and contain it with the drive axle seal clamp pliers (J 35910) to a torque of 136 n.m (100 lb ft). Place the convolute retainer tool over the inboard joint maker to make sure that the right number of convolutions is grabbed for the corresponding model. Next, the tripot spider assembly and spacer ring should be installed, pack the tripot seal and housing with the grease that comes with the parts, and assemble the tripot housing and seal. Secure the base of the axle swage tool (J 36652-98) in a vise for the 1500 models, while for 2500 and 3500 models use the drive axle clamp swage tool (J 36652-1). Put the halfshaft assembly into appropriate tool; install the top half; align the swage ring and clamp; hand-tighten bolts. Close-tightening the bolts until the two pieces of the tool are in contact and remove the halfshaft assembly, inspect for inboard stroke position from the specified measurement for each model. Last, if necessary, reinstall the wheel drive shaft seal cover and the wheel drive shaft.

    Q:
How to replace the inner CV Boot and CV Joint on Chevrolet K3500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Start by collecting snap ring pliers (J8059) along with seal clamp tool (J35910) and split plate swage clamp for k10 models (J36652-98) and split plate swage clamp for k20/k30 models (J36652-1). You need four tools for this repair: snap ring pliers (J8059), seal clamp tool (J35910), split plate swage clamp for k10 models (J36652-98), and split plate swage clamp for k20/k30 models (J36652-1). Check the transmission sealing surface of the halfshaft for corrosion before cleaning it with 320 grit cloth if needed. A hand grinder should cut through the swage ring in order to remove the tripot housing without damaging it. After removing the housing completely degrease it thoroughly. When handling the tripot spider assembly maintain careful movements because separation of tripot balls and needle rollers will occur. After removing the boot clamp with side cutters evacuate the spider spacer ring by using snap ring pliers (J8059). Clear the halfshaft bar by cleaning it with a wire brush after removing the spacer ring , spider assembly , and tripot boot . All components must undergo examination for damage and wear before replacing them with new parts. To install the new small boot clamp on the joint boot use the seal clamp tool (J35910) at 136 nm (100 ft. Lbs.) torque. Position the convolute retainer properly across the inboard joint boot before installing the tripot spider assembly and spacer ring onto the halfshaft bar. Begin by filling the tripot housing and boot with grease supplied for packing. After reassembly ensure the swage ring achieves correct alignment. Place mount the split plate swage clamp (J36652) into a vise position and install your model-specific clamp before verifying the inboard stroke position. Apply torque to the clamp bolts while alternating each bolt until fastened, afterward remove both the boot's convolute retainer and halfshaft assembly.
