One must begin drive shaft replacement by lifting the vehicle followed by tire wheel removal. Drive axle center caps can be removed when they are available. To prevent turn movement of the drive axle wheel drive shaft insert a drift or a large screwdriver through the brake caliper into a brake rotor vane. The hub install requires new hardware and removal of its nut along with washer while respecting the need to avoid using these components again. The axle remover tool (J 45859) enables users to press the wheel drive shaft away from the hub after which they must remove the six bolts retaining the wheel drive shaft inboard flange to the output shaft flange. First remove the drift from the rotor before you separate the stabilizer shaft link from the lower Control Arm and put shop towels around both wheel drive shaft boots to defend them against damage. Push the wheel drive shaft from the lower Control Arm opening. The installation requires cleaning the Steering Knuckle along with wheel drive shaft threads and splines until they are free from dirt and spray and contamination. Place the wheel drive shaft splined shank into the knuckle hub before installing the washer together with the new hub nut onto the wheel drive shaft but do not tighten it at this stage. Install the inboard flange of the wheel drive shaft onto the output shaft flange with its dedicated bolts followed by a large screwdriver insertion into the wheel caliper in a brake vane to stop wheel drive shaft rotation. Fasten the inboard flange bolts to 79 nm (58 ft. Lbs.) strength while the hub nut receives a torque of 240 nm (177 ft. Lbs.). After removing the drift from the rotor, check if drive axle center cap is available then install it while you reattach stabilizer shaft link and complete the process by installing wheel and tire assembly before lowering the vehicle.

Then, to change the front wheel drive shaft, one must lift the car, remove the wheel and tire assembly. If available, remove the drive axle center cap. Attach a drift or a large screwdriver to ensure the drive axle wheel drive shaft cannot rotate by driving it down through the brake caliper into one of the brake rotor vanes. Leave the nut and washer from the hub and do not reuse them because a new one needs to be fitted for its use. Cut the drive shaft with your battery-powered sawzall (J 97817), and then use the axle remover (J 45859) to push the wheel drive shaft away from the hub, and take out the six bolts that hold the wheel drive shaft inboard flange to the output shaft flange in place. You should remove the drift from the rotor, and then detach the stabilizer shaft link from the lower Control Arm. Wrap shop towels around the wheel drive shaft boots (both inner & outer) to prevent damage during removal & installation, and pull the wheel drive shaft through the opening of the lower Control Arm. For installation, repeat wrapping shop towels around the boots and make sure the Steering Knuckle and wheel drive shaft splines & threads are clean and dry. Push the wheel drive shaft splined shank into the knuckle hub, and screw the washer(screw302) on, followed by the new hub nut(screw310) without actually tightening it. Mount the wheel drive shaft inboard flange on the output shaft flange by using the inboard flange bolts and packing a drift o-large screwdriver into one of the vanes of the brake rotor to prevent turning the wheel drive shaft. Tighten the inboard flange to 79 nm (58 ft. Lbs.) and the hub nut to 240 nm (177 ft. Lbs.). Take the drift out of the rotor, install the drive axle center cap, if any, reattach the stabilizer shaft link, install the wheel with a tire, and lastly, drop the car.

Reinstall the tire and wheel assembly, fill the rear axle with the appropriate lubricant, and lower the vehicle.

Remove the gasket and clean the axle shaft flange along with the outside face of the hub assembly.

Insert a drift or large screwdriver through the brake caliper into one of the brake rotor vanes.

A locking plier is used to grip the rib on the axle shaft.

Next, take off the rear cover and gasket, then remove the pinion shaft locking bolt.

Pull the axle shaft out of the tube and remove the gasket, ensuring to clean the axle shaft flange and the outside face of the hub assembly.

First, remove the flange bolts.

Follow the specific steps for its removal; otherwise, proceed to remove the differential pinion gear shaft.

The lock clip is spring loaded and fits securely in the axle shaft slot; it may require a screwdriver or related tool to push it off, and pushing the axle shaft inwards towards the gears can assist in this process.

First, raise the vehicle and remove the tire and wheel.

Place the gasket onto the axle shaft and insert both into the axle tube, ensuring the shaft splines mesh with the differential side gear.

Remove the tire and wheel assembly, then take out the rear steering gear assembly and the steering knuckle assembly.

Inspect and add axle lubricant to the axle housing if necessary, following the appropriate lubricant level inspection procedures for the specific axle size.

Push the flange of the axle shaft toward the differential and remove the C-lock from the button end of the axle shaft.

Carefully remove the axle shaft without rotating it, as this could misalign the gears and complicate reassembly.

Twist to initiate removal and pull the axle shaft from the tube.

Raise the vehicle and remove the tire and wheel assembly.

First, remove the flange bolts.

Extract the axle shaft from the housing.

Withdraw the shaft partially and rotate the case until the pinion shaft contacts the differential housing.

Remove the rear cover and gasket, then the pinion shaft locking bolt and the pinion shaft.

Use a screwdriver or similar tool to rotate the lock until it aligns with the thrust block.

Ensure the seal is undamaged, then install the disc brake axle shaft and drum brake axle shaft if equipped.
