Insert j 8059 (Snap Ring Pliers) onto the snap ring ears and use the tool to separate the parts. Pull the cv joint and boot sequence out of the halfshaft bar and dispose of the old boot. A brass drift tool should be used for tapping and tilting movements on cv joint cages to remove the chrome alloy balls while repeating the procedure for all six balls. Begin by rotating the cage and inner race 90 degrees to obtain clearance for extraction. After cleaning with solvent all parts like inline race assemblies, cv joint cage and chrome alloy balls remove every trace of damaged grease or pollution. Determine whether any parts show wear or damage before you replace defective components. Then dry all the pieces. A wire brush should be used to clean rust from the seal mounting region on the halfshaft bar. First review all parts then distribute a small amount of recommended grease into both inner and outer race grooves. Insert the inner race into the assembly while maintaining a 90-degree angle relative to the cage. Then align it with the cage's windows. Use a brass drift to twist the cage into the chrome alloy balls as you set inner race and cage inside outer race . Next apply pre-measured grease from the kit into the cv joint boot and assembly before placing the new small boot clamp onto the cv joint seal and guiding the boot onto the halfshaft bar with the small end positioned in the joint boot groove. The small boot clamp requires placement onto the cv joint seal using j 35910 (Drive Axle Seal Clamp Pliers) and securing at 136 n.m (100 lb ft). Verify the clamp ear gap measurement during this process. Place the boot between two flat objects then create an oval outline. Set the retaining ring portion of the cv joint inner race to face the halfshaft bar while sliding the cv joint onto position. Verify the joint functions with manual force. Use j 36652-1 (Drive Axle Clamp Swage Tool) for 1500 models and j 36652-2 (Axle Swage Tool) for 2500, 3500, and hummer h2 models to clamp the large swage ring tightly around the cv joint boot as you wrap it around the cv joint outer race. Install the top half of the tool over boot and assembly and swage ring along with the cv joint end of the halfshaft assembly. Tighten each bolt individually to achieve complete tool closure. Remove the halfshaft assembly from the tool after loosening its bolts and reinstall the wheel drive shaft.

Begin the outer wheel drive shaft joint and boot replacement by removing the halfshaft while being cautious near the cv joint outer race with the hand grinder. A hand grinder should be used to slice the swage ring before using side cutters to remove the small boot clamp. Move the boot away from the cv joint outer race down the halfshaft bar then clean all grease from the cv joint face. To access the halfshaft bar retaining snap ring within the inner race use j-8059 (Snap Ring Pliers) to spread open its ear sections. Remove the boot along with the cv joint from the halfshaft bar while discarding the old boot. Gently tap the cv joint cage with a brass drift to rock it so all six chrome alloy balls will come out. Soak the cv joint cage and inner race at 90 degrees alignment with the outer race so they can be lifted out. After cleaning the inner and outer race assemblies, cv joint cage, and chrome alloy balls with cleaning solvent to remove all old grease and contaminants, permit the components to dry before replacing any worn parts. Use a wire brush to clean the halfshaft bar as you remove rust from the area where the seals mount. Before applying recommended grease, examine all parts for damage and wear by brushing a thin coat into the inner race and outer race grooves. Set your inner race to a 90-degree angle with the cage and position it through the cage's windows before moving forward. Position the cage and inner race into the outer race before using a brass drift to tilt the cage for installing chrome alloy balls . Apply pre-measured grease from the kit onto both the cv joint boot and assembly before installing the new small boot clamp onto the cv joint seal and placing the boot onto the halfshaft bar with its small end fitting into the joint boot groove. Apply j-35910 (Drive Axle Seal Clamp Pliers) on the small boot clamp then torque the clamp to 136 nm (100 lb ft) while sustaining the specified gap between clamp ear surfaces. First distort the new swage ring into an oval shape and install it over the boot with its retaining ring side pointing at the halfshaft bar. Then put the cv joint on the bar until it locks. Check cv joint engagement by pulling the joint assembly then move the large boot diameter onto the cv joint outer race . The swage ring clamping process requires j-36652-1 (Drive Axle Clamp Swage Tool) for 1500 models but j-36652-2 (Axle Swage Tool) for 2500, 3500, and hummer h2 models. Clamp the base in a vise while aligning the cv joint boot , cv joint assembly , and swage ring . Placing each tool half around the cv joint boot together with assembly insert two bolts starting from opposite sides until the tool halves connect before removing the halfshaft fully to install the wheel drive component.

Inspect for wear or damage, replacing any defective components observed before moving forward. Respond to rust contamination by brushing the halfshaft bar with a wire brush at the seal mounting location. All components require inspection for damage and wear before receiving a thin layer of grease is applied inside and outside race grooves. Insert the inner race into the cage by first aligning it with the cage windows at a 90-degree angle to cage. To install the chrome alloy balls and to place the cage and inner race into the outer race, use a brass drift to guide the cage. Use the pre-measured kit grease to fill the cv joint boot assembly before placing the new small boot clamp onto the cv joint seal and inserting the boot properly onto the halfshaft bar. Position the small-end into the joint boot groove. Use j-35910 (Drive Axle Seal Clamp Pliers) to clamp the small boot. Tighten to 136 nm (100 lb ft) as you double-check the clamp ear's gap width dimension. Press the retaining ring side of the cv joint inner race against the halfshaft bar direction while distorting the new swage ring into an oval before sliding it over the boot . Inspect cv engagement through joint pulling then place the cv joint boot's large dimension over the cv joint outer race . During boot tight clamping employ the j-36652-1 (Drive Axle Clamp Swage Tool) for 1500 models or the j-36652-2 (Axle Swage Tool) for 2500, 3500, and hummer h2 models to securely position the cv joint boot , cv joint assembly , and swage ring . The tool assembly requires direct bolt tightening from each side until the two halves meet and then allows removal of the halfshaft assembly for wheel drive shaft replacement.

Place the new small seal clamp onto the joint seal, compress it onto the halfshaft bar, and secure it with the Drive Axle Seal Clamp Pliers (J 35910) to a torque of 136 N.m (100 lb ft).

Begin by removing the wheel drive shaft and the wheel drive shaft seal cover if applicable.
