GMC Sierra 3500 Classic Radiator fan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the radiator fan and fan shroud (Non-HP2) on GMC Sierra 3500 Classic?
    A:
The process of changing a Radiator fan along with shroud (Non-HP2) starts with draining the cooling system. First access the air inlet duct and remove its connection with the upper Radiator Hose before unclipping the fan shroud hose at the Radiator inlet. If needed you should move or take out the surge tank inlet hose from the Radiator. First disconnect the Radiator fans wiring connectors then detach the wiring harness retaining clip on the fan shroud followed by removing the transmission cooler lines bolts from the fan shroud. The procedure requires opening the clip on the engine oil cooler lines and removing the cooler lines. The next step involves disassembling the Radiator fan shroud bolts followed by removing the combination of the shroud and fan. The Radiator support flange should receive the 3 lower tabs initially before the installation step with the condition that the shroud maintains alignment with the Radiator. Position the Radiator fan back into the assembly and fix the Radiator fan shroud bolts while tightening them to 9 n.m (80 lb in). Install the cooler lines into the clip while closing it and after that connect the electrical connectors to the Radiator fans followed by the installation of the clip which secures the wiring harness to the shroud. Attach the transmission cooling line bolts to the fan shroud while tightening them to 4 n.m (35 lb in). The surge tank inlet hose requires installation and repositioning at the Radiator before using the Radiator inlet hose clip at the fan shroud and installing the upper Radiator Hose from the Radiator and the air inlet duct. Finally, fill the cooling system.
