GMC Yukon Power Steering Reservoir Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Power Steering Reservoir on GMC Yukon?
A: The Power Steering Reservoir replacement starts by eliminating the Power Steering Pump assembly from vehicles with engines 4.8l, 5.3l, 6.0l, or 6.2l. The Power Steering Pump assembly requires the removal of its stud-mounted Power Steering Reservoir first followed by unmounting of the pump fitting together with its seal. Start by extracting the Power Steering Pump flow control valve along with its spring from inside the pump assembly before you break the Power Steering Reservoir away from the pump. Inspect the welch plug inside the Power Steering Pump without removing it while also examining the Power Steering Reservoir magnet for cleaning purposes; disfigurement or looseness of these components indicates the need for replacing the Power Steering Pump. Install the Power Steering Reservoir magnet after cleaning then attach seals number 1, 4, 5 to the Power Steering Pump before connecting the reservoir to the pump. The process for assembly includes mounting the Power Steering Pump flow control valve spring followed by the flow control valve to the pump assembly before final attachment of the Power Steering Pump fitting seal. The Power Steering Reservoir studs and flow control valve fittings must be hand-started before all torques are applied. Torque the Power Steering Pump fitting to the pump assembly at 75 nm (55 lb ft). The Power Steering Reservoir studs must be installed onto the pump assembly and fastened to 58 nm (44 lb ft). After completing the process reinstall the Power Steering Pump assembly on the vehicle.
