GMC Yukon Power Steering Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the power steering pump on 4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L engines on GMC Yukon?
A: The replacement process for 4.8l, 5.3l and 6.0l power steering pumps starts by removing the power steering pulley before raising the vehicle. You need to unfasten oil pan skid plate bolts together with the skid plate from its location before placing a drain pan below. Lower the vehicle to install the power steering pressure hose from the pump while performing the pump replacement under the vehicle. First detach clamps (3,5) which secure the power steering return hoses to the pump and then take away the hoses. Begin by taking out the lower intermediate shaft of the steering gear and afterward strip away both the bolt between the engine and rear bracket then unscrew the front pump bolts. Transfer the vehicle pump to an outdoors area to separate it from the pump bracket at its rear section. Mount the bracket to the pump rear section before tightening the rear bracket retaining nuts to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). The installation of the Power Steering Pump requires the attachment of the rear bracket to the engine using a bolt that reaches 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) torque. Fasten the front pump bolts with a torque of 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Fasten the Power Steering Pump return hoses (2,4) using the retaining clamps after reconnection. The power steering pressure hose installation to the pump requires the vehicle to be raised before tightening the fitting to 28 nm (20 ft. Lbs.). You must put back the oil pan skid plate and attach its bolts while tightening them to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.). After lowering the vehicle reinstall the intermediate shaft together with the power steering pulley while performing a fill and bleed operation on the system.
