    Q: What tools are required to service and repair the pitman arm on GMC Yukon XL 1500?
    A: The necessary tools for servicing and repairing the Pitman Arm are universal steering linkage puller (J 24319-B), universal Pitman Arm puller (J 29107-A), Pitman Arm puller (J 6632-01) and steering linkage installer (12 mm) (J 29193). Begin by elevating the vehicle and unpack the relay rod nut attaching the Pitman Arm ball stud while discarding that nut permanently. Eliminate the engine protection shield from the vehicle before starting work. The Pitman Arm ball stud detachment from the relay rod requires the usage of universal steering linkage puller (J 24319-B). After marking the Pitman Arm along with the shaft for alignment purposes start to remove its nut and washer. Avoid striking the Pitman Arm combined with the shaft along with the puller since this may lead to damage. Use the universal Pitman Arm puller (J 29107-A) to separate the Pitman Arm before you examine the ball stud threads for damage and deterioration while inspecting the seals for wear and cleaning all ball stud threads. The Pitman Arm should be placed onto the pitman shaft while using previously marked positions for alignment. Fasten the Pitman Arm washer and its attached nut to 250 nm (184 ft. Lbs.). The relay rod should be attached to the Pitman Arm ball stud with the seal properly fitted while using the steering linkage installer (J 29193) to tighten it to 54 nm (40 ft. Lbs.) until tapers are fully seated before removing it. Select and mount a new prevailing torque nut followed by tightening it to 62 nm (46 ft. Lbs.). After safeguarding the engine with the protective shield users should lower the vehicle.
