    Q:
How to replace the idler arm on Cadillac Escalade EXT? Posted by Customer
    A:
A successful idler arm replacement requires Universal Steering Linkage Puller (J 24319-B) alongside Steering Linkage Installer (12 mm) (J 29193) and Steering Linkage Installer (14 mm) (J 29194). Start by elevating the vehicle then disconnect any engine protection shield from the vehicle when present. Remove the idler arm ball stud nut but do not reuse it and then use the Universal Steering Linkage Puller (J 24319-B) to separate the idler arm from the relay rod. First remove frame bolts of the idler arm together with nuts before removing the arm from the vehicle. The new idler arm should be positioned on the frame before inserting all frame bolts and nuts properly with torque set to 99 Nm (73 ft. lbs.). Fasten the relay rod onto the idler arm ball stud while verifying the seal sits correctly on the stud then apply the Steering Linkage Installer (J 29193) to seat the tapers before torquing it to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs. with a J 29194 or use the J 29193 tool instead). The new idler arm ball stud prevailing torque nut needs to be installed onto the idler arm ball stud and torqued to 62 Nm (46 ft. lbs.). You should reinstall the engine protection shield if your vehicle is equipped then lower the vehicle before inspecting the wheel alignment.

    Q:
How to replace the pitman arm on Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Classic? Posted by Customer
    A:
Start the Pitman Arm replacement process by positioning the steering gear into a vise prior to its removal. Start by removing both the Pitman Arm nut together with its washer. Both the Pitman Arm puller (J 6632-01) and the Pitman Arm puller (J 29107-A) can be used to unfasten the Pitman Arm from its Pitman Arm shaft position. Install the new Pitman Arm to the steering gear after putting on a new Pitman Arm washer and nut and tighten the nut to 250 nm (184 ft. Lbs.). Reposition the steering gear back into the vise before you install it along with necessary steps to adjust the front toe.

    Q:
How to service and repair the pitman arm on Chevrolet Tahoe? Posted by Customer
    A:
First, lift the vehicle and make sure it is supported by jack stands to work on the Pitman Arm. Use the right tool to remove the ball joints. Clean the relay rod nut off the Pitman Arm ball stud and never reattach it for use again. Remove the relay rod from the Pitman Arm ball stud by following the (J 24319-01). Next, detach the nut on the Pitman Arm (8) and discard the washer since it is not necessary to use it again. Properly place the Pitman Arm (2) and shaft by aligning them and never try to drive or hammer them during assembly. With the use of the tool (J 29107-A), lift the Pitman Arm, inspect the ball stud for damage and test the seals on it. Install the Pitman Arm by putting it on the pitman shaft and align its marks with the marks on the shaft. Fit in the Pitman Arm washer and nut (8), then tighten them to 250 nm (184 ft. Lbs.). Apply the relay rod (9) to the Pitman Arm ball stud and check that the seal is present. Put in the (J 29193) and tighten to 62 nm (46 ft. Lbs.) to press the tapers until they are in place and afterwards, remove the (J 29193). In the end, replace the torque nut and tighten it to 62 nm (46 ft. Lbs.), after which you should lower the car.

    Q:
What tools are required to service and repair the pitman arm on GMC Yukon XL 1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
The necessary tools for servicing and repairing the Pitman Arm are universal steering linkage puller (J 24319-B), universal Pitman Arm puller (J 29107-A), Pitman Arm puller (J 6632-01) and steering linkage installer (12 mm) (J 29193). Begin by elevating the vehicle and unpack the relay rod nut attaching the Pitman Arm ball stud while discarding that nut permanently. Eliminate the engine protection shield from the vehicle before starting work. The Pitman Arm ball stud detachment from the relay rod requires the usage of universal steering linkage puller (J 24319-B). After marking the Pitman Arm along with the shaft for alignment purposes start to remove its nut and washer. Avoid striking the Pitman Arm combined with the shaft along with the puller since this may lead to damage. Use the universal Pitman Arm puller (J 29107-A) to separate the Pitman Arm before you examine the ball stud threads for damage and deterioration while inspecting the seals for wear and cleaning all ball stud threads. The Pitman Arm should be placed onto the pitman shaft while using previously marked positions for alignment. Fasten the Pitman Arm washer and its attached nut to 250 nm (184 ft. Lbs.). The relay rod should be attached to the Pitman Arm ball stud with the seal properly fitted while using the steering linkage installer (J 29193) to tighten it to 54 nm (40 ft. Lbs.) until tapers are fully seated before removing it. Select and mount a new prevailing torque nut followed by tightening it to 62 nm (46 ft. Lbs.). After safeguarding the engine with the protective shield users should lower the vehicle.

    Q:
How to replace the Pitman Arm in the steering linkage (non-rack & pinion) on GMC Yukon? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step to replace a Pitman Arm in the steering linkage (non-rack & pinion) requires lifting and adequately supporting the vehicle. After power steering gear removal you should position it in a vise. The procedure begins with removing the Pitman Arm nut along with its washer followed by using a Pitman Arm puller (J 6632-01) or a Pitman Arm puller (J 29107-A) to separate the Pitman Arm from the pitman shaft. The new Pitman Arm should be attached to the power steering gear where installation requires the use of a fresh Pitman Arm washer and nut that must be tightened to 250 nm (184 ft. Lbs.). Follow up by moving the power steering gear from the vise, reattach it to the car, let the vehicle descend, then inspect the wheel alignment.
