Cadillac Escalade EXT Pitman Arm Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Pitman Arm in the steering linkage (non-rack & pinion) on Cadillac Escalade EXT?
A: The first step to replace a Pitman Arm in the steering linkage (non-rack & pinion) requires lifting and adequately supporting the vehicle. After power steering gear removal you should position it in a vise. The procedure begins with removing the Pitman Arm nut along with its washer followed by using a Pitman Arm puller (J 6632-01) or a Pitman Arm puller (J 29107-A) to separate the Pitman Arm from the pitman shaft. The new Pitman Arm should be attached to the power steering gear where installation requires the use of a fresh Pitman Arm washer and nut that must be tightened to 250 nm (184 ft. Lbs.). Follow up by moving the power steering gear from the vise, reattach it to the car, let the vehicle descend, then inspect the wheel alignment.
