Cadillac Escalade EXT Rack And Pinion Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the power steering gear (non rack and pinion) on Cadillac Escalade EXT?
A: Begin replacement of the Rack And Pinion by placing a drain pan below the vehicle then removing the optional engine protection shield. Drain all power steering fluid from its components and then use caps to seal the hoses and Rack And Pinion against dirt and debris. First disconnect the intermediate shaft from the Rack And Pinion before removing the Pitman Arm to relay rod nut. Start by using the universal steering linkage puller (J 24319-B) to separate the Pitman Arm from the relay rod before unbolting the bolts attaching the Rack And Pinion to the frame until you can remove the Rack And Pinion from the vehicle. To detach the Pitman Arm from the Rack And Pinion start by removing its retaining nut followed by using either Pitman Arm puller (J 6632-01) or Pitman Arm puller (J 29107-A). During installation mount the Pitman Arm to the Rack And Pinion before adding the retaining nut and washer and tightening the nut to 250 n.m (184 lb ft). Secure the Rack And Pinion to its frame using bolts torqued to 150 n.m (110 lb ft) prior to connecting the Pitman Arm to the relay rod and torquing the nut to 62 n.m (46 lb ft). Connect the intermediate shaft to the Rack And Pinion then remove Rack And Pinion and hose caps or plugs before installing the hoses while tightening each fitting to 32 n.m (24 lb ft). Bleed the power steering system before you uninstall safety stands and then lower the vehicle. You should also reinstall the engine protection shield if it comes with the setup.
