GMC Yukon XL 2500 Ball Joint Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the lower ball joint on GMC Yukon XL 2500?
    A:
Start by raising the vehicle and taking off the wheel and tire to access the lower Ball Joint. To enter the pinch bolt area you must first take off the bolt and nut that keep the bracket in place. Afterward detach the snap ring from the Ball Joint stud. Separate the lower Ball Joint from its position on the Steering Knuckle by taking out its bolts first then releasing the bottom ball retention bolt. You can now take out the lower Ball Joint from the vehicle after these steps. Put the lower Ball Joint back into the vehicle before installing the bolts to attach it onto the Steering Knuckle at 110nm (81ftlbs) torque setting. Secure the lower Ball Joint pinch bolt with torque level at 230 nm (169 ft. Lbs.). Apply the lower Ball Joint snap ring first and after placing on the lower Ball Joint insert bolt and nut to anchor the bracket to the axle unit while clamping them to 25 nm torque (18 ft. Lbs.). Put back the tire and wheel then lower the vehicle before aligning all four wheels.
