How to replace the lower control arm ball joint on cast iron lower control arms on Cadillac Escalade ESV? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step when changing the lower Control Arm Ball Joint on cast iron vehicles calls for lifting and supporting the vehicle before you remove the tire and wheel. You need to disconnect the lower Control Arm from the car. After positioning the lower Control Arm inside a vise you should remove any Ball Joint body crimps with a chisel to prepare for removing the joint from the Control Arm with a pressing tool. Insert the new Ball Joint by fitting its outer flange first then fix the lower Control Arm in place using a vise. Install the crimps on the new Ball Joint through punching while following the position of the replaced Ball Joint. Insert the lower Control Arm back into the vehicle and then put on the tire and wheel as usual. Complete the work by taking out the safety stand then letting the vehicle down before checking wheel alignment.

    Q:
How to replace the lower control arm ball joint (1500) on GMC Sierra 1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Rephrase: before you start working on the lower Control Arm Ball Joint you need to lift and position your vehicle. When needed take out the wheel drive shaft from its position. Secure and move the knuckle away from the lower Control Arm before taking out the Steering Knuckle from the vehicle. Carry out removal of locking tabs on the Ball Joint body through hammer chiseling action. Rest the ch 41805 Ball Joint remover install kit on the Control Arm and use a thin socket to take off the lower Ball Joint from the Control Arm. Put the new joint in the lower Control Arm with teeth of the locking tabs facing up if you use adapter ch-49240-2. Add both the ch 41805 - kit and ch-49240-3 tool to the ch-49240-2 then ch-49240-1 connector for installing the Ball Joint. Reverse the ch-49240-2 installation setup. Push the Ball Joint edges until they form lock tabs before securing the ch-49240-3 to 250 nm (184 lb ft). Do this repeated action on all lock tabs to normalize their depth and size. Follow the same procedures while rotating the ch 41805 - kit another 180 degrees around. When necessary push back in the wheel drive shaft then place the Steering Knuckle into its normal position. Place the lower Ball Joint stud nut and tighten it 50 nm first before applying another 95 degrees on final tightening. Lower the vehicle after removing the holding equipment.
