Upper Control Arm, Driver Side

Vehicle maintenance starts by supporting the vehicle at an ideal height. First separate the tire and wheel then remove the brake hose and wheel speed sensor brackets retaining bolts. Next you need to remove the nut from the upper Ball Joint and throw it away. First use the j-42188-b Ball Joint separator to disconnect the upper Control Arm from the Steering Knuckle followed by removing the upper Control Arm nuts and adjustment cams before removing the upper Control Arm. Set the new upper Control Arm into position and tighten its bolts to 190 nm (140 lb ft). First attach the upper Control Arm to the Steering Knuckle before installing a new nut on the upper Ball Joint stud at 50 nm (39 lb ft). Reinstall the retaining bolts for brake hoses and wheel speed sensor brackets at 9 nm (80 lb in) then install the tire wheel. Lower the vehicle before checking the wheel alignment.

Reinstall the tire and wheel, remove the supports, lower the vehicle, and verify the front end alignment.

Disconnect the ESC sensor.

Utilize the J 43631 (Ball Joint Separator) and J 45851 (Ball Joint Separator Protector Adapters).

Tighten to 140 N.m (103 lb ft).

Remove the nut at the upper ball joint, which should be discarded.

The lower control arm retaining nuts and bolt.

Tighten them to 175 N.m (129 lb ft).

Position the lower control arm and install the control arm bolts and washers, ensuring to follow the Fastener Notice.

The retaining bolt for the brake hose and the wheel speed sensor brackets.

If equipped, reinstall the wheel drive shaft and attach the stabilizer shaft link to the lower control arm. Finally, reinstall the tire and wheel, remove the support, lower the vehicle, and align the front end.

Position the new lower control arm and secure it with the control arm bolts and washers.

Nuts should not be tightened until the suspension is at curb height.

Reinstall the wheel drive shaft, shock absorber, and torsion bars.

Position the new lower control arm and secure it with the retaining bolts, ensuring not to tighten them until the suspension is at ride height.

Lower the vehicle.

Secure it with the retaining nut, tightening to 110 N.m (81 lb ft).

Detach the stabilizer shaft link from the lower control arm and, if equipped, remove the wheel drive shaft.

Remove the lower control arm nuts and washers, followed by the control arm bolts and the control arm.

Remove the nut at the upper ball joint and use the J-42188-B Ball Joint Separator.

Detach the stabilizer shaft link, torsion bars, and shock absorber.

Raise and support the vehicle at curb height.
