    Q:
How to replace the ABS Control Module on Chevrolet Colorado? Posted by Customer
    A:
Begin ABS Control Module replacement by placing clean paper together with shop towels between ABS Control Module assembly and inner fender. The ABS Control Module electrical connector should be detached before placing it behind the Brake Booster. The cleaning process with denatured alcohol covers both the master cylinder and the module before the technician detaches the brake pipes between the master cylinder and ABS Control Module assembly and removes the rear brake pipe from the cowl retainers. Place rubber plugs into each pipe component beginning with the brake pipes and followed by the brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) and ending with the master cylinder. This will minimize brake fluid loss during the ABS Control Module assembly replacement process. First remove the mounting nuts from the ABS Control Module before taking it out of the vehicle while making sure to operate in a contamination-free environment glove-free with no shop towels present. Install a new abs module assembly when mounting screws between ABS Control Module and bpmv cannot be removed or do not break during installation. You need to remove 4 mounting screws along with 4 collars that exist between the ABS Control Module and bpmv then discard those original parts in favor of new components. Thoroughly manage the electrical connectors to avoid misalignment when rotating the abs module until the bpmv aligns correctly facing upwards. The ABS Control Module and bpmv separation requires a pry bar to be performed otherwise replace the entire abs module as an assembly. After discarding the solenoid plate along with o-rings separate the bpmv assembly for cleaning using a paper towel while applying dot-3 brake fluid to its surface area. The examination of solenoids alongside bpmv should show no signs of corrosion or contamination while bpmv assembly replacement becomes necessary. Install the new solenoid plate onto the bpmv after removing it from the ABS Control Module while installing its new o-rings onto the ABS Control Module. The ABS Control Module reception allows the installation of the bpmv and new collars. It is important to first finger tighten the ABS Control Module mounting screws for the bpmv because the final torque should be set at 5 n.m (44 lb in). Attach the abs module to the car and secure its mounting nuts at 9 n.m (80 lb in). Insert the brake pipes into the ABS Control Module assembly by securing them with proper torque force of 19 n.m (14 lb ft). Afterwards replace the rubber plugs. Repetition is required for installing the brake pipes which connect ABS Control Module assembly to master cylinder. Reestablish electrical power and hook the rear brake pipe to its cowl-mounted retainer before taking out any paper or shop towels used for shielding from contacting the ABS Control Module assembly and inner fender. Bleeding of the abs brake system must be performed after completing the programming and relearning setup.
