The first step in fixing the Shift Interlock Solenoid is to take out the knee bolster. The automatic transmission shift lock control requires connector disconnect and subsequent prying from the Steering Column support assembly using a screwdriver until full removal. The first step for installation is to align the column into its neutral position before adding the automatic transmission shift lock control. Adjust the control system by extending the tab located on the block wall while moving the column selector to neutral position. Afterward compress the adjuster block internal spring so that the block section travels to its farthest solenoid distance. To finish installation, move the column to park and provide security through tab alignment while inspecting the automatic transmission controller before connecting controls and installing Steering Column trims and knee bolster.

The service and repair process for Shift Interlock Solenoid starts by removing knee bolster bracket and steering column trim covers. Use a screwdriver to separate the automatic transmission shift lock control from the steering column support assembly after disconnecting its connector then remove it from the steering column. Begin the installation by putting the column in the neutral position then insert the automatic transmission shift lock control. To adjust the control pull the tab accessible on the block side while moving the column into neutral position then use the adjuster block to push the internal adjuster spring until the block reaches the far end of the solenoid. To proceed with installation begin by setting the column to park then stabilize it with a tab push to the rear side. Examine the automatic transmission shift lock control and rejoin its connector before putting back the steering column trim covers and knee bolster bracket.
