    Q:
How to replace the harmonic balancer on Cadillac STS? Posted by Customer
    A:
Initiate crankshaft balancer replacement by detaching accessory drive belts and mechanical fan adapter in case there is one. First raise and support the vehicle before you remove the Starter motor. When replacing the crankshaft balancer bolt you must first apply the flywheel holding tool (EN 46326). The crankshaft balancer remover (J24420-C) must be connected to the crankshaft balancer after inserting the crankshaft button (J38416-2) into the end of the crankshaft. The crankshaft balancer needs cleaning followed by an inspection before the installation on the crankshaft nose. The crankshaft balancer installer (J41998-B) will press the balancer into position followed by cleaning the bolt threads before applying(engine) oil to them. Begin by tightening the crankshaft balancer bolt to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) using the first sequence before completing the bolt installation with an extra 120 degrees rotation through the angle meter (J45059). You should remove the flywheel holding tool (EN 46326), reassemble the Starter motor after positioning the mechanical fan adapter if present (if equipped) and installing accessory drive belts before the vehicle drop.
