Rear Cable

A vehicle needs to be raised securely while disabling the automatic adjuster of the park brake before starting cable replacement. Apart from the rear propeller shaft removal you need to detach the park brake cables from the parking brake equalizer. You should employ the Parking Brake Cable release tool (J 37043) to take away the park brake cable. Service of the left park brake cable requires installing a pole jack with a block of wood under the Fuel Tank then removing the Fuel Tank shield before detaching the rear support bracket. The Fuel Tank removal is not necessary. Access to the rear park brake cable retainer can be reached by letting the Fuel Tank drop four inches only. The underbody mounting studs receive the removal of park brake cable retaining nuts while the cable detachment occurs from its retainers followed by removal of the park brake retaining bracket bolt from the frame. Lower the retaining clips from the Parking Brake Cable and move the cable out of the mounting bracket and actuator while sliding it towards the vehicle interior. To install the park brake cables you should position them over the Fuel Tank assembly before pulling them through the frame in the outward direction. Mount the underbody park brake cable retaining nuts to their position and torques them to 10 nm (7 ft. Lbs.) after that elevate the Fuel Tank to reattach its rear support bracket. First uninstall the pole jack and block of wood before attaching the park brake cable onto the actuator while pressing down on its retaining clips. Reinstall the park brake retainer at its frame location before installing the park brake retaining bracket bolt which needs a torque of 20 nm (15 ft-lbs). Afterward connect the park brake cable between the retainers and park brake equalizer. Finally, reinstall the rear propeller shaft before lowering the vehicle to enable the automatic adjuster for the park brake and verify its operation while conducting shoe adjustments if required.

Detach the park brake cables from the parking brake equalizer and use the Parking Brake Cable Release Tool (J 37043) to remove the park brake cable.

Install the park brake cable nuts to the underbody studs and tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb in), then raise the fuel tank and reinstall the rear support bracket.

Tighten it to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).

Remove the shield and rear support bracket from the fuel tank to access the rear park brake cable retainer.

Position the park brake cables over the fuel tank assembly, pull them through the frame toward the outside, and install the park brake cable retaining nuts to the underbody mounting studs, tightening them to 10 N.m (7 lb ft).

First, release the park brake pedal and remove the knee bolster panel.
