    Q:
How to replace the engine front timing cover on Chevrolet Suburban 2500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Start by detaching the Water Pump before removing the Crankshaft balancer and disconnecting the camshaft position (CMP) sensor electrical connector. Start by disassembling the engine harness clips running through the battery cable channel followed by removing the cmp sensor bolt and finally the cmp sensor itself. After removing the battery channel bolt the cable channel needs to be repositioned. Disassemble the engine front cover bolts before you remove the engine front cover. Keep in mind that the engine front cover gasket can be reused during installation. The next step involves removing the Crankshaft front oil seal from the front cover. Install the new Crankshaft front oil seal using the front cover oil seal installer (J 42851) after applying clean engine oil to the sealing surface. Applicable gm sealant gm u.s p/n 12346286, canada p/n 10953472 or equivalent must be used at two positions on the engine block facing the oil pan and front cover joint. The installation of the front cover gasket into the front cover requires a specific method to protect the sealant from displacement. Position the front cover against the Crankshaft before lifting it to slide it across the Crankshaft and finally push it toward the engine block while maintaining a raised position. Let the dowel pin end of the cover lower itself onto the sealant. Install and tighten the engine front cover bolts in sequence, first to 6 nm (53 inch lbs.) next insert the torque wrench to 12 nm which equals 106 inch lbs. Fasten the battery cable channel by tightening its bolt to 9 nm (80 inch lbs.). The cmp sensor o-ring should be checked for damage before receiving a thin coat of clean engine oil to install the cmp sensor and bolt down with 12 nm (106 inch lbs.). Close the process by mounting engine harness clips onto the battery cable channel and connecting the cmp sensor electrical connector followed by reinstalling the Crankshaft balancer along with the Water Pump.
