    Q:
How to service and repair the timing cover on Chevrolet Express 3500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Service and repair operations on the Timing Cover start by taking out the crankshaft balancer and Water Pump followed by draining the engine oil. First disconnect all engine Oil Pan fasteners except the rear two nuts before gently pulling the engine Oil Pan away from the engine front cover. First disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor wire before removing the engine front cover. Install the new engine front cover then remove all adhesive residue from the corners that connect the engine front cover with the Oil Pan Gasket. The successful installation of both components should happen when the adhesive maintains its sticky quality. Utilize gm p/n 12346141 adhesive or its equivalent to create a 5 mm (0.197 inch) bead that extends 25 mm (1.0 inch) for application at the engine front cover to engine block connection near the Oil Pan. You should start by installing the engine Oil Pan followed by reconnecting the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor wire then mounting the Water Pump until you complete your work with the crankshaft balancer.

    Q:
How to Service and Repair a Timing Cover on Chevrolet K3500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnection of the battery's negative cable from the battery must start the process of servicing or repairing the Timing Cover. Pull the Drive Belt off its position on both drive pulleys before extracting the Crankshaft Position Sensor from the front engine cover. As a next step take away the crankshaft balancer from the crankshaft before removing the Water Pump from the engine block. The service requires leaving the Oil Pan intact. Let the Oil Pan suspend from rear mounting bolts rather than disassembly. Work through the steps of bolt removal beginning with the Oil Pan engine block fasteners then continue to the engine front cover mounting bolts and finally take off the front cover from the block. During engine front cover installation you must use the gasket if it remains in good condition but replace it if it shows signs of damage. Screw the engine front cover to the engine block before torquing the engine front cover bolts to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). First reinstall the Oil Pan onto the engine block then secure the Crankshaft Position Sensor to the engine front cover and balance the crankshaft to the crankshaft. Connect the Battery Cable to the battery during the last stage of the installation process.

    Q:
What tools are required to service and repair the timing cover on GMC C2500? Posted by Customer
    A:
A set of equipment needed to service and repair the Timing Cover includes a front and rear cover alignment (J41476). Front and rear cover alignment (J41476). Start by taking away the Water Pump before moving to remove the Crankshaft balancer from the Crankshaft and finally the engine front cover. A thorough inspection of all elements should occur first. The Crankshaft oil seal and front cover gasket need replacement while sliding the gasket across the Oil Pan Gasket leads to failure. A 5 mm (0.20 inch) bead of gm p/n 12378190 should be applied in the Oil Pan to engine block corner contact area. Mount the front cover assembly onto the engine with its gasket while maintaining a light initial torque on the cover bolts before completing final tightening. Position the j41476 correctly by having the tool's tapered legs fit into the machined alignment features found on the front cover. Tighten the Crankshaft balancer bolt first by hand just to a snug fit and then slowly tighten the Oil Pan-to-cover bolts until the cover reaches the pan rail. The Oil Pan-to-front cover bolts require tightening to 25 n.m (18 lb ft) while front cover bolts need 25 n.m (18 lb ft). After removing the j41476 tool from the front cover, add the front Crankshaft oil seal and replace the Crankshaft balancer onto the Crankshaft before you finalize the Water Pump installation.
