    Q:
How to service and repair the timing chain on GMC C2500? Posted by Customer
    A:
As the first step in Timing Chain service and repair install the Crankshaft key that you may have removed into its keyway position. Then gently tap the key forward until both ends rest on the Crankshaft. Begin by putting the Crankshaft sprocket in front of the Crankshaft while making sure the Crankshaft key centers with the Crankshaft sprocket keyway. Put the Crankshaft balancer and sprocket installer (J41665) to work installing the Crankshaft sprocket until it rests completely against the Crankshaft flange. Schedule the Crankshaft sprocket rotation until its alignment mark reaches the twelve o'clock position while confirming the camshaft locating pin remains in position across the camshaft alignment hole and sprocket teeth integrate correctly with the Timing Chain. Position the camshaft sprocket alignment mark at the 6 o'clock orientation during alignment between camshaft and Crankshaft sprocket. Set the camshaft sprocket together with the Timing Chain in place and exercise the Crankshaft or camshaft sprockets to match the timing marks. Before finishing installation you should screw in the camshaft sprocket bolts then torque them to 35 nm (26 ft. Lbs.).
