    Q:
How to replace the ignition lock cylinder on Buick Rainier? Posted by Customer
    A:
Begin the Ignition Lock Cylinder replacement process by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable and disabling the sir system while following all safety protocols. Drain the hush and knee bolster before you remove steering column trim covers. Insert an allen wrench into the hole above the lock cylinder housing with the key in run position then push down to drop the tab so the lock cylinder can slide out. You can begin installation by putting the key into the lock cylinder followed by rotating the lock cylinder housing gear clockwise with a screwdriver to reach the start position until it spring back into run. Position the gears from Ignition Switch to lock cylinder housing correctly to avoid no start and battery drain issues. After aligning the lock cylinder, install it into the housing before reinstalling the steering column trim covers along with the hush pad and knee bolster. Reconnect the negative Battery Cable after you have enabled the sir system.

Start by lowering the hush and knee bolster before removing the steering column trim covers. To extract the lock cylinder you need to put a key in run position then insert an allen wrench into the housing hole and push to unlock the tab which lets the lock cylinder slide out. The key needs to enter the lock cylinder while alignment between the ignition switch and lock cylinder housing gears is checked to stop no start and battery drain. Tighten the lock cylinder housing gear clockwise with a screwdriver until it reaches the start position before it automatically rebounds back to run.
