How to service and repair the Ignition Lock Cylinder on Chevrolet Classic? Posted by Customer
    A:
Start the process to repair or service the ignition lock cylinder by locating the key which matches the five-character code present on the barcode tag that shows lock combination data. Check the functioning of the lock cylinder using the key which you cut to the necessary length for each tumbler position. Key locks excluding ignition lock cylinders along with tumblers may be obtained through the service parts warehouse. Use the Ignition Lock Holding Fixture (J 41340) to construct and program ignition lock cylinders. Note down the lowest tumbler figures for each slot when you align the key and key illustration to find the correct tumbler placement. Place tumblers into their designated positions after removing the side bar and positioning one tumbler spring above each tumbler. First apply lubricant from GM P/N 12346241 Superlube or equivalent to the cylinder tumblers before positioning the spring retainer into its slots at the cylinder end. Push the retainer down fully until it becomes fully seated. Check the installation through key insertion while maintaining the spring retainer positioned along with a side bar inspection to confirm it forms a complete flush with the cylinder diameter. If necessary, disassemble and reassemble. Place the cylinder inside the Ignition Lock Holding Fixture (J 41340) with the spring retainer facing upward and beneath the punch slots before tightening the holding screw. Use the punch from the Ignition Lock Holding Fixture (J 41340) to stake the bezel end of the retainer before repeating the process for the other end by rotating the punch 180 degrees. Check the retainer staking by first loosening the holding screw and then removing the cylinder from the Ignition Lock Holding Fixture (J 41340). Look for correct staking to decide whether additional staking is needed. Insert the retainer spring followed by the retainer into the cylinder retainer slot after applying GM P/N 12345996 grease equivalent to lubricate the cylinder retainer.

    Q:
How to replace the ignition lock cylinder on Chevrolet Impala? Posted by Customer
    A:
Start the Ignition Lock Cylinder replacement by disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery. Begin by removing the instrument panel (I/P) cluster trim plate followed by the insertion of a key and rotation of the Ignition Lock Cylinder to the on/run position. Using a small curved tool or an l-shaped hex wrench, depress and hold the detent on the Ignition Lock Cylinder by accessing it through the i/p opening to the right of the Ignition Switch; adjust the Ignition Switch position for better access if needed. Pull the lock cylinder out of the switch with assistance from the key while also removing the key from the cylinder. The next step should be Ignition Switch replacement if the cylinder either fails to rotate or gets stuck. To install the system first validate the Ignition Lock Cylinder code if needed then insert the key and rotate the lock cylinder until it reaches the on/run position. Press the lock cylinder into alignment with the Ignition Switch while making sure the white Ignition Switch rotor matches up with the lock cylinder. Begin by putting the key in the off position and removing it while you place the i/p cluster trim plate back into place followed by reconnecting the negative Battery Cable. Installation of a new lock cylinder requires running the bcm theft deterrent relearn procedure.

How to replace the ignition lock cylinder on Chevrolet Monte Carlo? Posted by Customer
    A:
A driver should disconnect the negative Battery Cable before replacing the Ignition Lock Cylinder. Start by removing the instrument panel cluster trim plate and insert your key to turn the Ignition Lock Cylinder into the on/run position. Angle your wrench to reach beneath the detent located at the cylinder on the ignition lock. This access point is right of the switch when looking from inside the i/p. You can easily reach the Ignition Switch by dropping it lower if you need better access. Use the key to help remove the lock cylinder from the switch before taking the key out of the cylinder. Track a new ignition procedure if the cylinder stops rotating or becomes stuck. To begin installation process start by coding the Ignition Lock Cylinder when needed while inserting the key afterward turning it to the on/run position. Position the lock cylinder onto the Ignition Switch while pressing down onto it until it reaches its final placement. Also normalize the white colored Ignition Switch rotor position by checking for proper alignment when the key made slight rotation during lock removal. For installation place the key in off position then remove the key before installing the i/p cluster trim plate together with reconnecting the negative Battery Cable. Perform bcm theft deterrent relearn procedures after installing a new lock cylinder.
