Flywheel

Start the replacement of an engine Flywheel by taking away both the transmission and clutch assembly if present. First take out the engine Flywheel bolts followed by the removal of the engine Flywheel according to transmission type: automatic or manual. Replacement of manual transmission engine flywheels must install new weighing plates at their original positions and requires documentation of their positions before assembly begins. Every component requires cleaning followed by inspection before beginning with the installation process. Note the positioning and lengths of original Flywheel weights before installing a new engine Flywheel by replacing the weights of equal length in identical position locations. The installed new Flywheel weights need to rest at either a level position or lower than the engine Flywheel surface. Fit the engine Flywheel against the Crankshaft while positioning the locator hole next to the locator pin and follow by tightening engine Flywheel bolts to 100 nm (74 ft. Lbs) torque using an installed sequence. The final step should involve the reinstallation of clutch assemblies then transmission units.

Replacing an engine Flywheel requires removal of both transmission and clutch assembly but only proceed when transmission is present. When installing a manual transmission engine Flywheel position and length of original weights need careful attention to match the same dimensions between new weights in their corresponding locations. Set up the new Flywheel weights in positions where they rest at a maximum of enviable distance below the engine Flywheel surface. The assembly requires you to attach the engine Flywheel while aligning the Flywheel locator hole with the Flywheel locator pin. The sequence operation of installing engine Flywheel bolts should end with a torque of 100 nm (74 ft. Lbs.). Complete the installation by fitting both the clutch assembly when needed followed by the transmission.

Service of the flex plate begins with raising the vehicle. Begin the service by removing the Starter (Starter Motor Replacement in Starting and Charging) followed by the converter housing access plug. Note down the correct alignment points for converter and Flywheel before you uninstall the Flywheel to converter bolts. Users should start all Flywheel to converter bolts by hand before tightening them to 60 nm (44 ft. Lbs.). Install the converter housing access plug followed by lowering the vehicle to its proper position.

Install the engine flywheel bolts and tighten them in sequence to 100 Nm (74 ft. lbs.).

Take out the clutch assembly.
