    Q:
How to service and repair a catalytic converter on GMC Jimmy? Posted by Customer
    A:
Always wear protective goggles and gloves when servicing or repairing the Catalytic Converter because they will protect you from rust drops and sharp edges. Make sure lift pads stay away from the three-way Catalytic Converter during vehicle lifts to prevent damage from occurring. Replacing exhaust system components with standard oem parts helps your vehicle maintain its performance levels. Start by securing the vehicle on a support and remove the transmission support bracket. Disengage the electrical wiring for lh pre-converter heated Oxygen Sensor (H02S) and rh pre-converter heated Oxygen Sensor (H02S) and post-converter heated Oxygen Sensor (H02S). Start by separating the Muffler from the Catalytic Converter and Exhaust Manifold using the appropriate nuts then remove the converter by itself. Use tools to remove the Catalytic Converter along with its gasket by separating it from its rubber hangers. Take out the needed heated oxygen sensors (H02S). After installing heated oxygen sensors (H02S) when required you should put the Catalytic Converter along with new gaskets in their proper position. The Catalytic Converter should be secured to rubber hangers before installation onto the Exhaust Manifold using flange nuts tightened to 53 nm (39 ft. Lbs.). Fix the Muffler together with its new gasket to the Catalytic Converter by tightening the flange nuts to 40 nm torque (30 ft. Lbs.). Connect electrical wires to the post-converter heated Oxygen Sensor (H02S) along with the rh pre-converter heated Oxygen Sensor (H02S) and lh pre-converter heated Oxygen Sensor (H02S). Lower the vehicle while reinstalling the transmission support.
