    Q:
How to Service and Repair Coil Springs on Chevrolet K3500? Posted by Customer
    A:
A coil spring repair service begins with hoisting the vehicle to allow control arms to drop while free-hanging. First remove the tire with wheel assembly and then uninstall the shock absorber. Use the coil spring remover and installer (J 23028-01) to hold the lower Control Arm while it's attached to a suitable jack's end. The lower Control Arm pivot bolt tension must be relieved by raising the jack while secure the spring with a chain through both Control Arm and spring. Following this step, remove the stabilizer shaft and pivot bolt from the lower Control Arm. Start by ejecting the pivot bolts and nuts in sequence with the rear pivot bolt preceding other removal steps. Drop the Control Arm after lowering the jack and extract the chain when spring compression releases from the coil spring. Pull out the coil spring along with the insulator yet place the coil spring correctly to extract it easily. Installation requires placement of the coil spring and insulator onto the lower Control Arm while maintaining lowest tape position at the bottom and gripper notch at the top position with one inspection drain hole completely covered by the spring end and one hole remaining open. Fasten the spring by running a chain between the arm and spring before placing the spring insulator above the connection point. Use the coil spring remover and installer (J 23028-01) to support the Control Arm while installing the lower Control Arm on the frame by applying it with a pry bar. Fuse pivot bolts with new nuts while starting by tightening the front bolt followed by the rear one before ensuring the nuts reach 137 nm (101 ft. Lbs.). The process ends with stabilizer shaft installation followed by the shock absorber and the tire and wheel assembly before lowering the vehicle while performing a front wheel alignment check.

    Q:
How to replace the front coil springs on GMC C2500? Posted by Customer
    A:
First, make sure the car is supported at some points, then remove the shield and the cross bar on models 25 series. After that, unbolt and remove the tire and wheel assembly, the shock and the front stabilizer shaft link. Align j 23028-15 over the appropriate locating tab, depending on the engine type and link the retaining hook up to the Control Arm. Secure fitting with a wing nut tightened to keep freeplay from occurring. Put j 23028-01 into a transmission jack, secure it in place and lift them up so the yokes of j 23028-01 line up with the notches on j 23028-15. Take the tension away from the lower Control Arm pivot bolts using both your tools, remove the bolt nuts and then get rid of the rear pivot bolt and front pivot bolt for every series. Lift the front suspension just slightly and, using a pry bar if needed, gradually lower the transmission jack to take the weight off the front coil spring. After that, remove both the coil spring and its insulator. To install the spring and insulator, put them on the lower Control Arm, raise the transmission jack to get the spring short and use a pry bar to guide the arm to the right place. Secure the pivot bolts from the front and rear and don't forget to tighten the lower Control Arm pivot nuts to 145 nm (107 ft. Lbs.) for both series. After lowering the jack, remove j 23028-15 and then fit in the front stabilizer shaft link, shock absorber and the tire and wheel assembly. For the 25 models, put on the frame cross bar, tighten its nuts to 100 nm (74 ft. Lbs.) and then install the engine protection shield. Last, take off the safety stands so the vehicle can be lowered.
