    Q:
How to service and repair the front coil springs and shock absorber on Buick LaCrosse? Posted by Customer
    A:
A technician should first collect several essential tools before starting suspension strut service work. The collection includes a strut rod nut socket (J 42991) as well as a strut spring compressor (J 45400). You require two tools for strut work: strut rod nut socket (J 42991) and strut spring compressor (J 45400). Place the removed strut into the strut spring compressor (J 45400) before beginning installation. The spring needs to be compressed when the strut moves freely so turn the spring compressor forcing screw to compress the coil spring. Use a 45 torx(R) socket to secure the strut shaft during removal of the upper strut mount nut with strut rod nut socket (J 42991). When operating the strut spring compressor (J 45400), carefully release the compressor forcing screw to detach the upper strut mount along with the coil spring. After placing the upper strut mount and coil spring back into the strut spring compressor (J 45400) continue compressing the coil spring. Secure the strut shaft with its coil spring by placing the upper strut mount on the shaft before tightening the strut mount nut to 75 n.m (55 lb ft) with the strut rod nut socket (J 42991) and 45 torx(R) socket. Use the strut spring compressor (J 45400) to extract the strut afterward it goes back into your vehicle.

    Q:
How to Service and Repair Coil Springs on Buick LaCrosse? Posted by Customer
    A:
To service and repair the coil spring, start by removing the strut from the car. Then, mount the strut into the strut spring compressor (J 45400). Make sure that the spring is compressed, as the strut moves freely; turn the spring compressor forcing screw so that the coil spring becomes compressed. And use a 45 torx socket to clamp the strut shaft and make it loosen the nut of the upper strut mount using strut rod nut socket (J 42991). After checking out the strut from strut spring compressor (J 45400), loosen the compressor forcing screw, so that the upper strut mount and coil spring could be removed. For assembly, place the coil spring in with the upper strut mount into the strut spring compressor ( J 45400) compressing the coil spring by turning the spring compressor forcing screw. Mount the strut to the coil spring and the upper strut mount, and then tighten the strut retain nut using the strut rod nut socket (J 42991) and a 45 torx socket; tighten strut mount nut to 75 nm (55 ft. Lbs.). Finally, extract the strut from the strut spring compressor ( J 45400) and then re-install it to the vehicle.

    Q:
How to service and repair the front coil springs and shock absorber on Chevrolet Monte Carlo? Posted by Customer
    A:
In order to service and repair the suspension strut, it begins with removing the strut from the vehicle. Subsequently, install the strut in the strut spring compressor (J 45400). It is necessary also to ensure the spring is compressed when the strut moves freely. Depress the spring compressor forcing screw so as to compress the coil spring. Locate with a 45 torx socket the strut shaft and detach the upper strut mount nut with the strut rod nut socket (J 42991). After pulling the strut out using the strut spring compressor (J 45400), loosen the forcing screw while compressor until the upper strut mount and coil spring will come out. Go ahead and reinstall the coil spring and upper strut mount back to the strut spring compressor (J 45400) and compress the coil spring further by turning the spring compressor forcing screw. Mount the strut to the coil spring and to the top strut mount, topping it with the strut retaining nut. By tightening the strut rod nut socket (J 42991) and using a 45 torx socket, tighten the strut mount nut to 70 n.m (52 ft. Lbs.). Finally, lift up the strut from the strut spring compressor (J 45400) and replace it back to the vehicle.
