Fuel Gauge Sending Unit

The first step to replace the fuel level sensor on the Avalanche and Escalade EXT requires removing the fuel sender from the vehicle and setting it on a clean work surface. The first step is to separate the fuel level sensor electrical connector from its location on the module connector. Then disconnect the retaining clip while being mindful to carefully unhook the locking tabs present on the reservoir which prevents improper functioning of the sender. Remove the fuel sender reservoir retaining tabs that are located on both sides of the reservoir before extracting the fuel level sensor wires which should pass through these tabs to separate the module from its reservoir. The retaining tabs need to be squeezed before sliding the fuel level sensor off the reservoir solution. The fuel level sensor installation requires users to put the module on the reservoir until retaining tabs lock into position before placing the module into reservoir. The fuel level sensor wires should be guided around the retaining tabs before you insert the reservoir snap tabs into their positions at both sides of the reservoir. Install first the retaining clip of the fuel level sensor then connect its electrical connector to the module connector before putting in the fuel sender.

Begin the fuel level sensor replacement by setting the sending unit on a sterile work surface. Gently disconnect the fuel level sensor electrical connector that is attached to the module connector then remove the retaining clip from the sensor. The technician must carefully release both fuel sender reservoir retaining tabs which are positioned on either side without harming the locking mechanisms because this could result in the failure of the sender. The module should be extracted from the reservoir after removing its wires from the tabs. You should use your fingers to press these retaining tabs toward one another so the fuel level sensor can be pulled off the reservoir. After installing the fuel level sensor onto the reservoir you must enable retaining tab activation before connecting the module to the reservoir. Insert the wires of the fuel level sensor between the reservoir retaining tabs before snapping both sending unit reservoir retaining tabs securely against the reservoir sides. Install the retaining clip of the fuel level sensor while connecting its electrical connector to the module connector before installing the sending unit.

The fuel level sensor replacement starts with unmounting the fuel sending unit. Start the replacement of the fuel level sensor by disengaging the electrical connector through retainer engagement before you take off the fuel level sensor electrical connector. Start by moving the locking tangs towards the inside of the sending unit bucket before extracting the fuel level sensor out from the bucket. The new fuel level sensor installation requires sliding the part down through the sending unit bucket with active locking tang engagement. Insert the fuel level sensor electrical connector into position before checking that the retainer does not have any gaps. Complete installation by putting in the fuel sending unit.
