    Q:
How to replace the Rack and Pinion steering gear on Cadillac SRX? Posted by Customer
    A:
Start power steering Rack And Pinion replacement by attaching the steering column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) to the steering column. First elevate the vehicle and afterward dismount the front tires and wheels together with the front air deflector. Before disconnecting the intermediate shaft from the power steering Rack And Pinion to prevent damage make sure the wheels face forward while the steering column remains in lock position. You need to disconnect the intermediate shaft from the power steering Rack And Pinion after unscrewing the intermediate shaft lower pinch bolt and separating the power steering Rack And Pinion from the intermediate shaft and disconnecting the variable effort steering harness connector. To separate the outer tie rod from steering knuckles use the steering linkage and tie rod puller (J 24319-B) while removing outer tie rod retaining nuts. Insert a drain pan underneath the vehicle before removing the power steering Rack And Pinion retainer bolt. Next free the power steering hoses from the power steering Rack And Pinion through disconnecting the power steering Rack And Pinion retaining bolt. Start by disconnecting the brake hose and then plugging the left Brake Line before placing it safely where it can remain aside. When your vehicle has awd install a jack beneath the front differential housing's bottom portion to support it. After loosening the right engine mount nut elevate the housing using a jack to clear the steering rack bolt. Use the left wheel opening to extract the power steering Rack And Pinion while you remove these mounting bolts along with the left rearward lower Control Arm to frame mounting nut and bolt. The installation process requires inserting the power steering Rack And Pinion into the left wheel opening followed by attaching the left rearward lower Control Arm to frame mounting bolt and nut. Finally tighten all power steering Rack And Pinion retaining bolts to 180 nm (134 ft. Lbs.). With awd equipment present, first lower the differential housing then tighten the right lower engine mount frame nut to 80 nm (59 ft. Lbs.) before extracting the bottom differential housing support. Attach and torque the left Brake Line to the brake hose until it reaches 27 nm (20 inch lbs.). Next, install the power steering hoses to the power steering Rack And Pinion and secure the power steering hoses to the power steering Rack And Pinion retaining bolt using a 23 nm (17 ft. Lbs.) torque setting. Drain the container and install the outer tie rod to the steering knuckles before tightening both nuts to 70 nm (52 ft. Lbs.). Connect the variable effort steering harness connector and put the intermediate shaft onto the power steering Rack And Pinion. Install the intermediate shaft lower pinch bolt at 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) tension before adding tires and wheels and dropping the vehicle and removing the steering column anti-rotation pin (J 42640). Perform power steering system bleeding while also making front toe adjustments.

    Q:
How to replace the Rack and Pinion on a left-hand drive on Cadillac SRX? Posted by Customer
    A:
A left-hand drive vehicle requires several steps before beginning the Rack And Pinion replacement process. First turn the Steering Wheel to achieve a straight wheel position and after engaging the Ignition Lock Cylinder lock position remove the key. Put the anti-rotation pin (J 42640) through the Steering Column access hole to secure the column against movement. Remove front wheels with their tires along with the left wheelhouse panel and front air deflector. Install drain pans beneath the vehicle where necessary. Before disconnecting the intermediate shaft from the Rack And Pinion stub shaft you must verify that wheels are straight and the Steering Column is locked to prevent damage. To start disconnect all lower intermediate Steering Shaft bolt before removing the lower intermediate Steering Shaft from the Rack And Pinion and separating the Rack And Pinion outer tie rod ends from the steering knuckles. Beginning with power steering inlet hose bracket bolt removal, proceed to disconnect inlet and outlet hoses from the Rack And Pinion. Connectors replace and seal up the left front Brake Line away from the left front brake hose. When a vehicle has all-wheel drive (AWD), technicians should support the front differential housing before loosening the right engine mount nut and raising the front differential housing to clear the Rack And Pinion bolt. To remove the Rack And Pinion you need to first disconnect both Rack And Pinion bolts and the rearward left side lower control arm nut and bolt before pulling forward the Rack And Pinion through the left wheel opening. Install the Rack And Pinion by inserting it through the left wheel opening followed by tightening the rearward left side lower control arm nut and bolt to 180 nm (133 lb ft). When the system has awd the front differential housing should be lowered so install the right engine mount nut to 80 nm (59 lb ft). Connect the left Brake Line to the left brake hose using a 27 nm torque setting then install the power steering hoses on the Rack And Pinion followed by torquing the inlet hose bracket bolt at 23 nm (17 lb ft). First connect the Rack And Pinion outer tie rod ends to the steering knuckles before connecting the lower intermediate Steering Shaft to the Rack And Pinion. Install the lower intermediate Steering Shaft bolt and tighten it to 50 nm (37 lb ft). Finish cleaning all power steering fluid remnants before installing the front air deflector and left side wheelhouse panel and front tire and wheel assemblies. After removing the anti-rotation pin (J 42640) you must fill the power steering system and bleed it before moving on to fill and bleed the hydraulic brake system and finalize the front toe adjustment.
