2009 Cadillac SRX Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Rack and Pinion on a right-hand drive on 2009 Cadillac SRX?
A: Right-hand drive vehicles require Steering Wheel alignment to straight forward positioning before locking the ignition cylinder and removing the key for Rack And Pinion replacement. The anti-rotation pin (J 42640) goes into the Steering Column access hole to secure the Steering Column. Start by taking off the front tire assemblies and wheel units together with the right wheelhouse panel and front air dome deflector. Install drain pans below the vehicle when necessary. Ensure that wheels maintain a straight position and the Steering Column is locked when disconnecting the intermediate shaft from the Rack And Pinion stub shaft for protection against damage. The process requires removal of the lower intermediate Steering Shaft bolt and detachment of the lower intermediate Steering Shaft from the Rack And Pinion and separation of the Rack And Pinion outer tie rod ends from the steering knuckles. The Rack And Pinion bolt securing the power steering hose bracket needs removal to permit disconnected hoses between the inlet and outlet of the Rack And Pinion. Caretakers should disconnect the left front Brake Line from the left front brake hose then secure it with a plug. When your vehicle includes awd you must support the front differential housing then loosen the right engine mount nut before raising the front differential housing above the Rack And Pinion bolt height. Remove the Rack And Pinion bolts first before using the rearward left side lower control arm nut and bolt to pull out the Rack And Pinion from the left wheel opening. Open the left wheel through which the Rack And Pinion will be inserted and follow by installing the rearward left side lower control arm nut and bolt. Next tighten each Rack And Pinion bolt to 180 nm (133 lb ft). To install front differential housing on vehicles with awd you must first lower it before torqueing the right engine mount nut to 80 nm (59 lb ft). Install the left front Brake Line to its corresponding brake hose while tightening it at 27 nm (20 lb in). Now use 23 nm (17 lb ft) torque for power steering Rack And Pinion inlet hose bracket bolt installation. Complete the attachment of the Rack And Pinion outer tie rod ends to the steering knuckles before connecting the lower intermediate Steering Shaft to the Rack And Pinion. Then install the lower intermediate Steering Shaft bolt while torqueing to 50 nm (37 lb ft). After cleaning power steering fluid residue you should install the front air deflector and right side wheelhouse panel and front tire and wheel assemblies. Remove the anti-rotation pin (J 42640) before filling and bleeding both the power steering system and hydraulic brake system and adjusting the front toe.
