    Q:
How to replace the Rack and Pinion on LE8 and LE9 (2.2L and 2.4L) on Chevrolet HHR? Posted by Customer
    A:
Security of the car's Steering Wheel in straight-ahead positioning is essential for le8 and le9 (2.2L and 2.4L) models because an anti-rotation pin or lock or strap prevents wheel rotation to protect the sir system from breakdown. Proceed with tire and wheel removal before discarding the outer tie rod end nuts following assembly of both Rack And Pinion outer tie rod end nuts. To separate the outer tie rod ends from steering knuckles, use the j 24319-b (Steering Linkage and Tie Rod Puller). Discard the intermediate steering shaft bolt from the Rack And Pinion before separating the intermediate steering shaft from the Rack And Pinion. Pull the Rack And Pinion through the left wheelhouse opening once you have removed both bolts from the Rack And Pinion and the transmission rear mount. To secure the new Rack And Pinion begin by installing it through the left wheelhouse opening and bolt it down with torque set at 110 nm (81 lb ft). The transmission rear mount receives installation while the intermediate steering shaft connects to the Rack And Pinion before securing it with a new bolt achieving 34 nm (25 lb ft) torque. The Rack And Pinion outer tie rod ends must be assembled to steering knuckles by using new nuts that reach 25 nm (18 lb ft) torque before receiving an additional 90 degrees of angular movement. Afterwards reattach the front tires and wheels before toe adjustment and rpo jl4 Steering Angle Sensor calibration if the vehicle possesses this option.
