    Q:
How to replace the Release Hood Cable on Chevrolet Impala? Posted by Customer
    A:
Start by unclosing the hood and blocking the Hood Latch so it cannot secure until you install the new cable. The Hood Cable requires removal through retainer squeezing before withdrawing it from its bracket on the Hood Latch. First remove the air cleaner as well as the retainers connected to the upper tie bar and engine compartment side rail. After separating the cable from the hood release handle pull the carpet back as you reach the cable endpoint which should stay inside the passenger compartment. The end of the Hood Cable requires attachment to your wire or string for easier new cable installation. Handle the grommet removal from the dash by using a flat-bladed tool and replace the Hood Cable from the dash afterward before you pull out the wire or string. To install the new Hood Cable you should tie the wire or string to it before pulling it through the dash until the grommet seats correctly and then complete grommet installation. The process ends by attaching cable retainers to engine bay side rails while connecting the Hood Latch to the new cable before reinstalling the air filter and cable attachment to the hood release handle. To finish the installation you need to reposition the carpet and remove the block from the Hood Latch while conducting an operation check of the cable before removing the hood.
