A thorough evaluation of the deflector ring must happen before replacement when it shows signs of damage. Tapping the defective deflector ring from the CV joint requires a hammer with a brass drift before you must discard it. Place the new deflector ring onto the CV joint before inserting a 3 inch or 4 inch pipe coupling that should be followed by placement of a 12 mm x 12 mm steel plate featuring a 3 mm thick 28 mm hole at its center. Installed steel plate features a 28 mm hole allowing the halfshaft bar to pass through. Secure the M24 x 2.0 nut to the halfshaft bar until the deflector ring reaches the CV joint base. After you've removed the M24 x 2.0 nut you should discard the 12 mm steel plate and 3 inch or 4 inch pipe coupling.

Use 320 grit 3M cloth to eliminate any corrosion on the transmission booting surface and allow them to dry.

Use a hand grinder to carefully cut through the swage ring without damaging the outer race.

The halfshaft bar should protrude through the hole in the steel plate.

Snap Ring Pliers (J 8059), Drive Axle Seal Clamp Plier (J 35910), and Drive Axle Seal Clamp Plier (J 35566).

Locate the halfshaft bar retaining snap ring in the inner race, spread its ears apart using J 8059, and then remove the CV joint and seal, discarding the old seal.
