    Q:
How to clean the fuel injector on Chevrolet Classic? Posted by Customer
    A:
Several specific tools are required to clean the Fuel Injector including j 37287 (Fuel Line Shut-Off Adapters), j 38500-a (Fuel Injector Cleaner), j 42873-1 (3/8 Fuel Line Shut-Off Adapter), j 42873-2 (5/16 Fuel Line Shut-Off Adapter), j 42964-1 (3/8 Fuel Line Shut-Off Adapter), and j 42964-2 (5/16 Fuel Line Shut-Off Adapter). Gm top-engine cleaner remains the only acceptable cleaning agent since other agents likely contain harmful methanol that damages fuel system components yet never add this cleaner in the fuel tank. The j 38500-a requires a maximum 10 percent cleaning solution mixture that should be made up of 960 ml (32.4 oz). In order to prepare the j 38500-a for cleaning operations us dealers must insert two empty 24 ml (0.812 oz) gm p/n 12346535 containers but canadian dealers must use 48 ml (1.62 oz) gm p/n 992872. Keep the ratio at 1:9 by combining 3.24 oz of top-engine cleaner with 29.16 oz of unleaded gasoline if you use a distinct cleaning solution brand. The cleaning process requires fuel tank insertion along with disabled fuel pumps and properly sealed blocked fuel feed and return lines with suitable adapters. The j 38750-a should be connected to the Fuel Rail before applying 510 kpa (75 psi) of pressure to clean the system until the engine stops. When finished using the j 38500-a return to the Fuel Pump relay and restore lines then let the car idle for 2 minutes to remove remaining fluid from inside the device. The injector balance test results should be recorded to check for fuel pressure drops between each injector. Replace the injector with least fuel drop when the difference reaches more than 15 kpa (2 psi). The fuel tank should receive one ounce of port Fuel Injector cleaner gm p/n 12345104 (Canadian P/N 10953467) per gallon of gasoline according to the guidelines. Additionally customers need to switch fuel brands and apply the cleaner every 3,000 miles while road testing the vehicle for successful resolution of the issue.
