    The process of replacing a rear Axle Shaft begins with vehicle lift-up then removal of tire-wheel assembly followed by removal of the brake caliper. Begin by removing the rear axle housing cover together with its gasket followed by taking out the pinion shaft locking bolt. If your axle does not have a locking Differential you should detach the pinion shaft; if your axle includes a locking Differential you must partially take off the shaft and rotate the case until the pinion shaft makes contact with the housing debris. The door of the screwdriver will guide the rear Axle Shaft lock's rotation to match thrust block's opening place. At this moment, the user should move the Axle Shaft's flange into the housing before removing the rear Axle Shaft lock from the shaft's button end. Avoid shaft rotation because it risks damaging the gears. A gradual rotation of the Axle Shaft inside the rear axle housing becomes necessary until its Differential side gear splines match with those on the housing. Position the rear Axle Shaft lock on the button end of Axle Shaft for axles without locking differentials but install it on the Axle Shaft itself to meet the thrust block when using locking differentials. Pull the shaft flange outward to position the rear Axle Shaft lock into the Differential side gear before putting in the pinion shaft through the Differential case while matching up the pinion shaft hole with the Differential case bolt hole. Connect the new pinion shaft locking bolt that requires a torque setting of 36 n.m (27 lb ft) when using an 8.6 inch axle while a 9.75 inch axle needs 27 n.m (20 lb ft). You must reinstall the brake caliper and tire and wheel assembly after reinstalling the new rear axle housing cover with its gasket. To finish the process you must fill the rear axle with appropriate fluid before lowering the complete vehicle.
