    Q:
How to service and repair the rear coil springs and suspension strut on Chevrolet Impala? Posted by Customer
    A:
A technician must remove the vehicle's strut and coil spring before servicing or repairing the rear suspension strut. Put the strut inside the strut spring compressor while also making sure the spring stays compressed during strut movement. Turn the spring compressor forcing screw while compressing the coil spring. Apply a 45 torx(R) socket to restrain the strut shaft before removing the upper strut mount nut through the strut rod nut socket (J 42991). Take the strut out of the strut spring compressor device (J 45400). You can remove the upper strut mount and coil spring by loosening the forcing screw on the compressor. To assemble the strut spring compressor (J 45400) position the coil spring and upper strut mount then turn the spring compressor forcing screw until the coil spring reaches the desired compression rate. Check fastener safety protocol while you install the strut assembly onto the coil spring with the upper strut mount. Use the strut rod nut socket (J 42991) and a 45 torx(R) socket to tighten the mount nut to 75 nm (55 lb ft). To complete installation simply remove the strut from the strut spring compressor (J 45400) before reinstalling it to the vehicle.
