How to service and repair the coil springs and shock absorber on 2010 Chevrolet Impala?

Service and repair operations on coil springs must start with removal of the vehicle's strut component. Put the strut inside the j 45400 while maintaining spring compression for maneuverability. Pull the spring compressor forcing screw until the coil spring achieves compression. The j 42991 requires a 45 torx(R) socket to maintain the strut shaft position before extracting the upper strut mount nut. The user can remove the strut from the j 45400 by first loosening the compressor forcing screw for separation of the upper strut mount and coil spring. Assembly starts with the coil spring then upper strut mount on the j 45400 while using the forcing screw to compress the spring before installation. When installing the strut through coil spring and upper strut mount be sure to observe fastener recommendations. Insert the j 42991 as well as a 45 torx(R) socket to tighten the strut retaining nut to 70 nm (52 lb ft). After disconnecting the strut from the j 45400 you can reposition it into the vehicle.
