Fuel Pressure Regulator

Begin replacing the Fuel Pressure Regulator by first draining pressure from the fuel system then wiping off all dirt from the Fuel Pressure Regulator. You will need to disconnect the vacuum line from the Fuel Pressure Regulator before removing its retainer clip. When detaching the Fuel Pressure Regulator from the Fuel Rail you should lift and twist it using a shop towel to absorb any leaking fuel. Start by taking the regulator assembly filter then proceeding to remove the regulator seal lower o-ring followed by the regulator seal upper o-ring before ending with the regulator seal back up ring. Protect the Fuel Pressure Regulator housing with proper cover material to stop foreign matter from entering the fuel system. New o-rings should be placed onto the Fuel Pressure Regulator before installation and they need to be applied with a small amount of clean engine oil. Mount the back up ring together with the upper o-ring and filter and lower o-ring before applying the Fuel Pressure Regulator retainer clip . You should connect the Fuel Pressure Regulator vacuum line along with the negative Battery Cable. Turn on the ignition while the engine remains off for 2 seconds before turning off the ignition for 10 seconds and re-turning on the ignition to check for fuel leaks. Place the fuel injector sight shield as the last step.

The first step for replacing the Fuel Pressure Regulator involves removing the fuel pressure before cleaning any debris away from the Fuel Pressure Regulator. After disconnecting the Fuel Pressure Regulator vacuum line users must remove its retaining clip. Twist the Fuel Pressure Regulator upward while rising it from the Fuel Rail after covering spills with a shop towel. First separate the regulator assembly filter from the device and then remove its lower o-ring followed by upper o-ring and back up ring in sequence. Secure the opening of the Fuel Pressure Regulator housing with a protective cover in order to guard against hazardous substances entering the fuel system. New o-rings should be installed on the Fuel Pressure Regulator before installation while using clean engine oil to lightly lubricate these o-rings. The next steps involve placing the back up ring followed by the upper o-ring and filter and lower o-ring before fastening the Fuel Pressure Regulator with a retainer clip and attaching the Fuel Pressure Regulator vacuum line. Follow this procedure to check for leaks after reconnecting the negative Battery Cable by first turning on the ignition for 2 seconds, next keeping it off for 10 seconds and then re-turning on followed by leak checks. Protected fuel injector sight shields should be installed as the final step.

One must begin Fuel Pressure Regulator service by first reducing fuel pressure and inspecting whether solid matter exists on the Fuel Pressure Regulator. The first step involves releasing fuel pressure along with cleaning of the Fuel Pressure Regulator. After that disconnect the vacuum line connected to the Fuel Pressure Regulator. The removal of the clip holding the regulator in place should occur next. The lift-twist motion of the Fuel Pressure Regulator against the Fuel Rail frees the Fuel Pressure Regulator while fuel spills are contained with a shop towel. Service the Fuel Pressure Regulator by eliminating the regulator seal lower o-ring as well as the regulator assembly filter and the regulator seal upper o-ring and regulator seal back up ring. The housing of the Fuel Pressure Regulator needs protection from contaminants that could enter the fuel system during this procedure. Before installing the Fuel Pressure Regulator you should place new o-rings on its unit and lightly oil them using clean engine oil. The Fuel Pressure Regulator needs installation with the back up ring first followed by the upper o-ring and filter and lower o-ring before fastening it with the retainer clip and vacuum line reconnection. Turn the ignition on for two seconds before turning it off for ten seconds to check for fuel leaks when inspecting the connection between the negative Battery Cable. Connect the sight shield for fuel injectors as the last step.

The service process for the Fuel Pressure Regulator requires relieving fuel pressure through quick connect fitting(s) service (Metal Collar). Every speck of dirt should be cleaned off the Fuel Pressure Regulator before removing the vacuum line. The Fuel Pressure Regulator can be detached from the Fuel Rail through a retainer clip removal process that involves lifting it while rotating with a shop towel covering any spilled fuel. Service begins with removing successively the lower o-ring and regulator assembly filter and upper o-ring before taking out the back up ring. A protective covering should be positioned at the Fuel Pressure Regulator housing to stop fuel system contamination. The process of installation requires new o-rings when using an existing regulator where gentle application of clean engine oil serves for lubrication. Install the filter along with the lower o-ring and back up ring and upper o-ring starting from the bottom before securing them with the retainer clip. The vacuum line should reconnect along with the negative Battery Cable. Perform a fuel leak check by turning on the ignition while the engine remains off for 2 seconds followed by shutting off the ignition for 10 seconds leading to a second on ignition without starting the engine for leak inspection. Place the fuel injector sight shield as the last step.

Repairs and servicing of the Fuel Pressure Regulator demand the use of a fuel pressure gauge (J 34730). Start with depresurizing the fuel system. Wash the retaining ring of the Fuel Pressure Regulator and uncouple the vacuum hose from the pressure regulator. The retainer clip from the Fuel Pressure Regulator must be taken out first followed by lifting and twisting the pressure regulator to break its connection from the housing while using a shop towel to catch any fuel leaks. Everyone should remove the regulator seal lower o-ring followed by the regulator assembly filter and the regulator seal upper o-ring along with the regulator seal back up ring. Space a cloth piece over the Fuel Pressure Regulator housing to stop contamination from entering. A new o-ring should go on the regulator before installation alongside engine oil lubrication of the o-ring. Install the regulator seal lower o-ring followed by the regulator assembly filter then the regulator seal upper o-ring after which the regulator seal back up ring should be put in place. After installing the regulator back up ring and vacuum line connector the retainer clip will be reattached. After Battery Cable reconnection the technician needs to check for leaks through the fuel system by following ignition cycle procedures and visually inspect the fuel system. Put in the reserve seat cushion before attaching the fuel injector sight shield onto the engine block while torquing its nuts to 3 n.m (27 lb in).

Clean any dirt from the fuel pressure regulator retaining ring.

Reconnect the negative battery cable.

Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF for 2 seconds, then turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds, followed by turning ON the ignition again with the engine OFF, and inspect for fuel leaks.

Install the regulator seal back-up ring, the regulator seal upper O-ring, the regulator assembly filter, and the regulator seal lower O-ring.

Install new O-rings, lubricating them lightly with clean engine oil.

Install the fuel injector sight shield.

Relieve the fuel pressure by servicing the Quick Connect Fitting(s) (Metal Collar).
