    Q:
How to Replace an Air Bag Sensor in the Front End on Chevrolet Blazer? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the inflated restraint front end discriminating sensor, disable the SIR system first. Do not hit or jolt the sensor and make sure it is adequately fixed before connecting power to prevent SIR deployment or harm. And if equipped, remove the off-road skid plate, then remove the CPA from the sensor harness connector and disconnect the harness connector from the sensor. In the body, drill out all the mounting rivets and remove the sensor of the vehicle. If the sensor mounting holes or fastenings have broken, remove and discard the incorrectly installed, then fasten the sensor with a new working rivet. If it becomes necessary to undertake the second fastener fix, remove the misinstalled rivet, enlarge the mounting holes of the lower radiator support to 9.0 mm (0.35 in), insert and properly seat the rivnut, and install the sensor with a screw. Tighten fasteners to 8.0 N.m (71 lb in). For the installation, clean the mounting surface, and install the sensor horizontally to the lower radiator support with an arrow pointing to the front of the vehicle. Lift with flexible restraint front end discriminating sensor mounting rivets (GM P/N 15715058), fasten the sensor, reconnect the harness connector and fasten the CPA. They have to adjust the tire pressure to the recommended levels in the glove compartment; reinstall the off-road skid plate, and finally turn the SIR system on.

    Q:
What Does the Air Bag Sensor Replacement Policy Mandate Regarding Sensors in the Area of Collision Damage on Chevrolet S10? Posted by Customer
    A:
The SIR sensor replacement policy requires replacement of sensors which are situated in the areas showing collision damage although Air Bags have not deployed. This policy pertains to any vehicle section that gets crushed or bent or otherwise deformed after a crash. Replacement of the sensor becomes necessary no matter how the Air Bags behaved during an accident because any invisible damage to the mounting bracket or wire insulation could affect the SIR sensing system functionality. Do not try to evaluate the sensor condition since replacement remains the necessary step.

    Q:
How to replace the Air Bag Sensor in the Front End on Chevrolet S10? Posted by Customer
    A:
Handle the Inflatable Restraint Front End Discriminating Sensor with care while installation to avoid damage by first cleaning the mounting surface and second making sure the sensor aligns horizontally with the front arrow pointing forward. Tightening all fasteners on the sensor and bracket system at specific torque standards is essential to stop Air Bags or injuries to occupants. First disable the SIR system and extract the off-road skid plate when present. First disconnect the connector position assurance (CPA) at the sensor harness connector then remove the harness connector from the sensor. Start by removing the sensor from the mounting holes or fasteners if any damage is found or if improperly installed rivets are present and then swap out these rivets using new ones to reattach the sensor. To perform additional repairs you should first remove the faulty rivet then expand the lower radiator support mounting holes to 9.0 mm (0.35 in) before inserting and seating the rivnut and installing the sensor by tightening the fasteners to 8.0 N.m (71 lb in). Put the sensor against the lower radiator support with its arrow pointing forward then attach the mounting rivets (GM P/N 15715058), reconnect the harness connector, secure the CPA after reinstalling the off-road skid plate when needed and turn on the SIR system.
