Heat Shield, Driver Side

The first step to replace the Exhaust Heat Shield involves removing both the exhaust Muffler together with the spare tire hoist. When dealing with vehicles equipped with a 6 1/2 ft box you need to take out the Exhaust Heat Shield bolts followed by the removal of the Exhaust Heat Shield. Those who own trucks with an 8 ft box must follow the same procedure of removing Exhaust Heat Shield bolts and the Exhaust Heat Shield. The first step of installation should start with the 8 ft box Exhaust Heat Shield while making sure to fasten Exhaust Heat Shield bolts to 9 nm (80 inch lbs. Torque). The installation of the 6 1/2 ft box requires the Exhaust Heat Shield along with its bolts to be placed before tightening them to 9 nm (80 inch lbs.). Reinstallation of the spare tire hoist and the exhaust Muffler completes the installation procedure.

The initial step for changing the Exhaust Heat Shield (1, 3) on the dash panel starts by raising the vehicle while using proper support methods. Use a 10mm socket to remove Exhaust Heat Shield nuts while extracting the Exhaust Heat Shield from dash panel studs (1, 3). Make heat shield removal from the passenger wheelwell when performing this service. The installation process begins with inserting the heat shield through the passenger side wheelwell before completing the Exhaust Heat Shield (1, 3) attachment to its dash panel studs (1, 3 and 2). Follow the fastener notice in service precautions after which you should install the Exhaust Heat Shield nuts at 9 nm (80 inch lbs.). Finally, lower the vehicle.

Tighten them to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

The nuts should be tightened to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.).

Position the exhaust manifold heat shield onto the exhaust manifold and install the heat shield bolts, tightening them to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
