    Q:
How to replace the brake shoes on Chevrolet Silverado 1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
The Brake Drum needs removal as a first step for brake shoes replacement. Remove first both the adjuster actuator lever spring and adjuster actuator lever from the system. You should open the brake shoes slightly to get rid of the Brake Shoe adjuster . Users should inspect all drum brake adjuster components for presence of damage and replace any parts found to be missing or worn out or damaged. The Brake Shoe hold down springs and cups can be detached from their pins by compressing the spring followed by rotating the assembly one-quarter turn. Start by dislodging the lower Brake Shoe spring and shift the primary Brake Shoe in an outward direction until the return spring disconnects from the Brake Shoe web. You need to remove the Brake Shoe return spring followed by compressing the park brake cable spring so the park brake cable fitting can disconnect from the park brake lever for removing the secondary Brake Shoe. Clean the backing plate after which apply high temperature brake lubricant to the rear Brake Backing Plate contact surfaces of the brake shoes then inspect for any absent or worn out or damaged drum brake hardware components. The process starts with park brake cable spring compression to enable fitting the park brake cable fitting end on the secondary Brake Shoe park brake pointed toward the rear Brake Backing Plate. Add the Brake Shoe return spring by putting its hook end through the web from behind then insert the primary Brake Shoe return spring and position it on the rear Brake Backing Plate while guiding its hook end from the outside. The completion process involves compressing lower Brake Shoe springs before rotating their assemblies 1/4 turn while securing them to hold down pins. High temperature brake lubricant must be used to clean and lubricate the threads of the Brake Shoe adjuster before installing the component. First unfold brake shoes to fit the Brake Shoe adjuster before placing adjuster actuator lever onto the pivot pin of the primary Brake Shoe and lastly install the Brake Shoe adjuster actuator lever spring. The Brake Drum installation process must be completed last.

    Q:
How to replace the brake shoes on GMC Sierra 1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
The replacement process starts with drum brake removal. Start by removal of the Brake Shoe adjuster actuator lever spring followed by the adjuster actuator lever. Use slim force to loosen Brake Shoe gap in order to extract the Brake Shoe adjuster. The replacement process requires inspection and replacement of all drum brake adjuster hardware that is missing or shows wear or damage. Compressing the spring enables rotating the Brake Shoe hold down assembly 1/4 turn for removal from pins. To proceed with the shoe removal process start by disconnecting the lower Brake Shoe spring then turn the primary Brake Shoe toward the exterior end until the return spring detaches from the shoe web. Before you can extract the secondary Brake Shoe you need to separate the park brake cable spring from the park brake lever by compressing it and then take out the Brake Shoe return spring. The vehicle owner should clear the backing plate before applying high temperature brake lubricant to all Brake Shoe contact surfaces of the rear Brake Backing Plate. At the same time check for drum brake components missing or damaged or worn out hardware and replace any as needed. When installing the brakes you should first squeeze the park brake cable spring before inserting the park brake cable fitting end to the park brake on the secondary Brake Shoe and positioning this against the rear Brake Backing Plate. Mount the Brake Shoe return spring first by guiding the hook part of the web from behind before adding the primary Brake Shoe return spring correctly behind the rear Brake Backing Plate and placing the hook into the outer face position. To install the lower Brake Shoe spring together with the Brake Shoe hold down springs and cups you must compress the spring while rotating them 1/4 turn onto the hold down pins. Clean all threads of the Brake Shoe adjuster with high temperature brake lubricant and reinstall the adjuster accordingly. Install a slight separation between the brake shoes before adding the Brake Shoe adjuster and adjusting the adjuster actuator lever to the primary Brake Shoe pivot pin and finally attach the Brake Shoe adjuster actuator lever spring. The installation sequence ends with the Brake Drum insertion.
