    Q:
How to Service and Repair a Steering Column and Steering Wheel on GMC Jimmy? Posted by Customer
    A:
The following tools are needed to service and repair the steering wheel and column: steering wheel puller (J 1859-A). Start by turn off the sir system and the removal of the inflator module. Then, slip off the horn plunger from the steering column by pressing down to the stop and rotate 90 degrees then also disconnect the steering wheel electric connection. Remove the nut that holds the steering wheel in place on the steering wheel shaft and stamp out the steering wheel and the wheel shaft for alignment purposes in the process of fitting. It is very important to use only the specified steering wheel puller (J 1859-A) while trying to get rid of the steering wheel, because hammering on the end of the steering column shaft may loosen the plastic injections which hold down the rigidity of the steering column in place. Insert the steering wheel puller (J 1859-A) on the steering wheel and take off the steering wheel. For installation, it is required to ensure that the turn signal on the multifunction switch is in a neutral position, align the mark on the steering wheel with the Steering Shaft and install the steering wheel to the steering wheel-shaft. It is important to unfasten the base nut of the steering column and tighten the following nut to 41 nm (30 ft. Lbs.) screw the steering wheel electrical connector, install horn plunger to the steering, column, and finally, after installing the inflator module enables the sir system.

    Q:
How to Service and Repair a Steering Column and Steering Wheel with Tilt on GMC Jimmy? Posted by Customer
    A:
For servicing and repairing of a steering wheel and column with tilt, the following tools are needed: steering wheel puller (J 1859-A). First, deactivate the sir and remove the inflator module. Next, removing the horn plunger from the steering column, you have to press it inward to the stop, and then turn it 90 degrees backwards, then disconnect the steering wheel electric connector. Remove the nut, which holds the steering wheel to the steering wheel shaft and make the mark on the steering wheel to the steering wheel shaft for proper alignment. To remove the steering wheel, remove it using the steering wheel puller (J 1859-A). Do not hammer the end of the steering column shaft to avoid the loosening of the plastic injection, which is responsible for the maintenance of rigidity. If installing it, make sure the turn signal on the multifunction switch is in the neutral position, line the mark on the steering wheel to the Steering Shaft, and install the steering wheel. Tighten the retaining nut to a torque of 41 nm (30 ft. Lbs), reconnect the steering wheel electrical connector, install stearing wheel horn plunger, and then lastly install the inflator module and then only enable the sir system.
