  • Q: How to service and repair the steering knuckle on 2000 Buick LeSabre?
A: First, to service and repair the Steering Knuckle, lift the car and take away the wheel and tire. Put a drift or screwdriver into the caliper and rotor to avoid rotor to turn, and take the drive axle nut and rotor. Now, we would take off the hub as well as bearing from the vehicle. Make use of the steering linkage and Tie Rod puller (J 24319-B) to pry the Tie Rod from the Steering Knuckle, followed by removal of the front strut to Steering Knuckle retaining bolts. Pull off the lower Ball Joint cotter pin and nut, then using the Ball Joint separator (J 43828) pull apart the Ball Joint from the Steering Knuckle and pull the Steering Knuckle off the vehicle. In installation, you should first install the lower Ball Joint into the Steering Knuckle and must tighten the nut for cotter pin alignment without tilting more than 60 degrees one of the other ways. And install the lower Ball Joint nut and cotter pin tighten the lower Ball Joint nut to 10 nm (88 inch lbs.) added another 180 to 300 degrees (3 to 5 flats). Next, install the Tie Rod to Steering Knuckle and tighten the Tie Rod end nut to 10n.m (88 in. Lbs.) plus additional 180 to 300 degrees (3 to 5 flat). Set up the hub and the bearing on the Steering Knuckle/drive axle, followed by the rotor. Lastly, ensure to install the drive axle nut with a help of a drift or screwdriver to avoid the rotation of the rotor and tightening the drive axle nut up to 145 nm (107 ft. Lbs.) and reassembling the wheel and tire.
