Buick LeSabre Steering Knuckle Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the steering knuckle on Buick LeSabre?
A: Before beginning the Steering Knuckle replacement process start by raising and supporting the vehicle while removing the tire and wheel assembly. Remove the wheel bearing/hub assembly from the complete vehicle. Through the use of a universal steering linkage puller (J 24319-B) you should separate the outer tie rod from the Steering Knuckle after removing the outer Tie Rod End retaining nut. Look for and take off the lower Ball Joint cotter pin and retaining nut before you separate the lower Ball Joint from the Steering Knuckle using the Ball Joint separator (J 43828). Next, take out the Steering Knuckle by removing its front strut to Steering Knuckle retaining bolts and nuts. The lower Ball Joint installation requires stepping by to the Steering Knuckle and applying the lower Ball Joint retaining nut before tightening it to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.) additional 180 degrees while maintaining cotter pin alignment across two slots. Heavy torque the outer Tie Rod End nut to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) plus an additional 180 degrees before attaching the Steering Knuckle to its mounting bolts and nuts which need to be torqued to 147 nm (108 ft. Lbs.). Assembly begins with the Steering Knuckle/drive axle mounting of the hub and bearing before adding the brake rotor. Use a drift or screwdriver to stop the rotor from rotating before securing the drive axle nut up to 160 nm (118 ft. Lbs.). Last, install the tire and wheel while aligning the vehicle.
