2000 Buick Park Avenue Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front brake pads on 2000 Buick Park Avenue?
A: Start the Brake Pad replacement task by draining two-thirds of the brake fluid from the master cylinder and then lift and support the vehicle. Remove the wheel. Instead of a screwdriver or pry bar use a c clamp to push the piston into place because other tools may hurt the piston boot function and cause rust. A large c clamp should compress the caliper piston to make it fit in the caliper housing entirely. You should strip out the bottom caliper slide pin and then lift the caliper body up to free the inboard and outboard pads from their anchor bracket while checking retainer condition. Check for damage on caliper bolt suspension boots and replace all damaged elements. When you find damaged or corroded caliper pin bolts replace them right away since cleaning corrosion is not possible. When the piston boot shows signs of wear replace it with a new unit. Insert the Brake Pad retainers into their bracket before installing both brake pads. Keep the caliper piston boot flat with its convolutions tucked in as you place it onto the assembly. Use a small plastic or wooden tool to press trapped air from the inner edge of the boot that touches the piston. Place the bottom of the caliper over the brake pads and bracket before installing the bottom slide pin and torquing it to 85nm. Put back the tire and wheel unit on the vehicle before lowering it and starting the engine. Press the brake pedal 778 newtons (175 pounds) three times to move the Brake Caliper Piston into place against the brake pads and refill the brake fluid. Finally, burnish the pads and rotors.
