2000 Buick Park Avenue Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the ABS Control Module on 2000 Buick Park Avenue?
A: The ABS Control Module (ABSCM) needs removal after switching OFF the ignition while lifting the vehicle. The technician needs to operate on the left front wheel and left front fascia extension. Pull up the ABSCM connector tab until it becomes unlocked then take off the position assurance accessory from the ABSCM electrical connector. It is essential to keep the ABSCM wiring harness connection free from the ABSCM while avoiding the ON position of the ignition switch as this action prevents equipment damage. You should first extract the ABSCM electrical connector from ABSCM while taking out the BPMV electrical connector from ABSCM. Unscrew the six ABSCM to BPMV screws then clean the ABSCM/BPMV assembly surface paying attention to the fact that faulty ABSCM requires replacement. The ABSCM operating module should be isolated from the BPMV unit. After cleaning the BPMV sealing surface you must install the ABSCM to the BPMV. Attach the 6 ABSCM to BPMV screws into position and tighten them to 3.2 Nm (28 inch lbs.). The ABSCM has to receive the BPMV electrical connector with the ignition switch in OFF position. Apply the ABSCM electrical connector to the ABSCM and place the ABSCM connector position assurance on the ABSCM electrical connector while depressing the ABSCM connector tab for the lock. Reinstall the left front wheel after replacing its fascia extension then lower the vehicle. An unprogrammed ABSCM results in DRP/ABS/TCS/VSES/TIM/VES (if equipped) functionality problems in addition to activating the red brake warning indicator while setting DTC C1248 and triggering DTC C1255m3 for an ABSCM internal failure. The installation of a new ABSCM requires programming with the vehicle-matching software followed by scan tool DTC cleaning. Conduct the ABS Diagnostic System Check as the last step.
