2001 Buick Park Avenue ABS Control Module Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the ABS Control Module on 2001 Buick Park Avenue?
A: The brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) requires a complete new replacement because performing any screw maintenance on the device other than the ebcm will damage the brake system. Start by switching the ignition off before elevating the vehicle. Clear the space surrounding the electronic brake control module (EBCM) by taking out the left front wheel and fascia extension together with the front air deflector to prevent any contaminant buildup. First cleanse the surrounding area of the ebcm then unlock its connector tab before removing the position assurance from the electrical ebcm connector. Remove the ebcm electrical connector from the ebcm while ensuring you keep away from brake fluid because it causes allergy effects on eyes and skin. Note down the positions of all brake pipes attached to the bpmv since it will help during installation. The bpmv requires removal of its 2 master cylinder brake pipes along with the 4 wheel brake pipes. Then cleanse all brake fluid residue before unfastening the 2 bpmv bracket nuts. Disconnect the ebcm/bpmv assembly from the bpmv bracket while removing the bpmv electrical connector from the ebcm before uninstalling the 6 ebcm to bpmv screws. You should cleanse the ebcm/bpmv assembly surface then disassemble the ebcm from the bpmv. The installation process requires users to first clean the bpmv seal surface after which they should mount ebcm onto the bpmv then proceed with inserting the 6 ebcm to bpmv screws while torquing these screws to 3.2 nm (28 inch lbs.). All 3 rubber isolators should be installed on the bpmv for vibration protection before attaching the ebcm/bpmv assembly to the bpmv bracket while securing nuts with 10 nm torque (89 inch lbs.). Check that brake pipes operate correctly to the bpmv in order to avoid wheel lockup conditions. To attach new pipes to a bpmv begin by removing its shipping plugs to access the valve openings and connect wheel brake pipes with master cylinder brake pipes to the bpmv while applying proper torque of 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.). Clean the seal surface area of the ebcm/bpmv assembly before installing the ebcm electrical connector to the ebcm and securing the ebcm connector position assurance. The left front fascia extension and front air deflector and left front wheel should be installed after users lock down the ebcm connector tab. Following vehicle lowering, technicians should complete hydraulic brake system filling and bleeding then run the auto bleed procedure together with performing an abs diagnostic system check.
