2001 Buick Park Avenue Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the ABS Control Module on 2001 Buick Park Avenue?
A: The replacement process for the ABS Control Module (ABSCM) requires starting by shutting off the ignition while raising the vehicle. First raise your vehicle then remove its left front wheel together with left front fascia extension while cleaning the ABSCM area to avoid ABS component contamination with loose dirt. Prior to detaching the ABSCM connector you need to remove all contamination from the component assembly and rotate the connector tab upward until its unlocked position before extracting the connector position assurance from the electrical connection. The wiring harness must never have its connection to the ABSCM when the ignition switch is in ON position because this could damage the equipment. The technician should disconnect both the ABSCM electrical connector which connects to the ABSCM and the brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) electrical connector which also connects to the ABSCM. Cleaning of the ABSCM/BPMV assembly surface starts after removing the 6 ABSCM to BPMV screws. A replacement of the faulty ABSCM becomes necessary when the unit cannot be repaired. Remove the ABSCM unit separately from the BPMV assembly. The installation process requires cleaning of the BPMV seal surface followed by attaching the ABSCM to the BPMV. Fasten the 6 ABSCM to BPMV screws using 3.2 Nm (28 inch lbs.) torque. Thoroughly check the ignition switch is OFF as you connect the ABSCM with BPMV electrical connector while connecting the ABSCM electrical connector to the ABSCM. The ABSCM connector position assurance should be mounted to the ABSCM electrical connector before pulling down the ABSCM connector tab to achieve lock. Install both the left front fascia extension as well as left front wheel before lowering the vehicle. Installation of a new ABSCM demands programming with the most current software that matches the vehicle specification along with scan tool-based DTC clearing and ABS Diagnostic System Check execution.
