2001 Buick Park Avenue Brake Calipers Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Replace Rear Brake Calipers on 2001 Buick Park Avenue?
A: Start by checking brake fluid in the master cylinder reservoir before work. Lower the fluid if it exceeds the midway between maximum and minimum marks. Lift the vehicle and take off both the tire and wheel elements. Lower the front brake cable section before detaching it from the park brake connector surface. Press the Brake Caliper Piston into the bore with a c-clamp until it moves 1 mm (0.039 inch) only. Detach the brake hose from the caliper and unfasten its bolt. Then eliminate the two copper brake hose gaskets. Block the connections in the brake caliper and pipe at the end of your work to keep fluid inside. Disconnect the park brake lever from the caliper bracket but leave the brake cable attached. After that, you can detach the cable from the present brake caliper. Position the caliper upward and remove it from its pin bolts while accessing the lower pin bolt. Clean both metal retainer pieces before adding them back to your system. Put hi temperature silicone grease on the parts and fasten the caliper to the overhead pin bolt. Set the caliper on its proper position in the bracket and bolt in both pins before tightening them to 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.). Before installing the new brake gaskets, you must remove the old plugs from the brake hose. Then connect the brake hose to the caliper bolt and tighten it to the specific torque of 45 nm. Rebuild the park brake system by attaching the cable to its lever and fitting the park brake assembly onto the brake caliper before tightening both connections at 43 nm (32 ft. Lbs.). Reinstall the front brake connection and let the modified air out. During this process apply the brake pedal to 2/3 of its range before releasing it while the engine remains off. After waiting 15 seconds repeat the process until you achieve a strong brake response. Put the tire and wheel parts on and lower the vehicle to the ground.
